Nikon D750 & D780

Fwiw I've got an 85 1.8G and while I like it I'm thinking of changing for the 135 f2 DC. The 85 is good at what it does but doesn't really get me excited the way some lenses can.

... and then I start to think I should really get a tele zoom first.

I think if sigma did an art 85/135 then they would excite me.

Strangely, the Samyang 85f1.4 excited me. Maybe because it was tricky nailing f1.4 initially and also it was my first f1.4 lens.

My bedroom side cabinet has boxes and lenses everywhere that I have on loan right now... I think I am confusing myself to what I want to keep!!

Sadly am tempted to get the 85f1.4g with the cashback offer. Thought about the 135 f2 but will hold off

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news the Nikon 85mm f/1.4G is awesome. It renders beautifully and is far and away my most used and absolute favourite lens. I have had a few other 85's all the Nikon versions and the Sigma and liked them all but the 1.4G for me anyway is very special. It just seems impossible to take a bad photograph with it.

b****r

I thought this might be the case.

One mention of GAS, and everyone`s at it again :D

Sadly... this is very true!

I decided last night I do actually find the 50mm rather boring.

Then confused myself by having a 35, 85, 24-85, 24-120 and 24-70 all in front of me and all for sale..... melted my brain, couldnt cope!

Over analysis leads to Paralysis springs to mind ... :)

Yes.... over analysis is driving me mad! Luckily I am on holiday next week so hopefully I can get away from all this GAS for at least a week!!!

JJ maybe stick with the zooms for this wedding but you should have a look through your lightroom catalogue and see which focal lengths you use the most and which shots you like the best to help you decide.

Yeah I was sticking with zoom for wedding, this is just what I want to use on every day kind of basis! But looking at the amount of lenses that people (inc me) have gone through I will porobably end up with them all at some point

I think you are thinking too much into this and going a through a series of buying, selling and rebuying stuff which you may not really need. I know this feeling as I had this some time ago.
I am more relaxed now and enjoy real shooting more than worry too much on lenses.

I have myself covered for 24-200 mm range with just three lenses and each specialised for its own needs that again is mapped to what I really like to shoot. My only wish list is a 35 or 50mm prime and I know buying is not a problem, but whether it will get used much is the thing I am trying to figure out.

You may have to work that out first in terms of what FLs and type of shooting you really enjoy and be satisfied with. Once this lens thing is out of mind, I assume you will enjoy using what you have decided to keep.

More unseasonable weather. This was a raging hail storm on its way. Shot with a macro lens!

And some chickens at ISO 8000.

While reading on Samyang 135 F2, came across this list at DXO - essentially how they have ranked prime lenses on a D810 (would be similar on D750 I guess in terms of ranking if not the scoring. Never saw this before and some interesting results. The 50 F1.8G is at the bottom. Well, these are just tech results and not a measure of actual rendering of images.

50mm f1.8G scores 17 on the D750 so 5 less than the D810 in terms of sharpness. Overall score is 30, so 3 less than the D810.

I had the 50 F1.8G once and used it on the D5100 and D600. Did some portraits and some street shooting.

Here's an album with shots taken with it. My PP sucked big time then and even now :D

I liked it while I had, but didn't use much wide open. With such a low price, I might buy one and give a try as the lens balances really well on a FF body like the D750. I shot a lot with the 35 F1.8DX which was like a 52mm equivalent on DX, hence I am familiar with the fl.

Nice pics. I have it, but very rarely use it. I just don't shoot much where I require/use primes.

I believe you are spot on!

I think we've all been through this tbh. I think it's not until you find your own interests and stop inspiring to be everyone else that you really find what lenses suit your needs. I keep seeing wonderful portraits and hanker after an 85mm or 135mm, but I've had to realise that taking portraits is very rare for me and so the idea of these lenses is 'better' than the reality of owning them. Plus I have the 70-200mm for the rare occasions of taking portraits.

I reckon everyone at one time or another has gone through it, and to a degree (I for one) still are. Fingers my GAS will be sorted in time for Brands ;)

The 200mm f2 would be a nice lens, Richard Peters liked it. I always wondered what it would be like with the 1.4 and 2x teleconverters to give a 280mm f2.8 and a 400mm f4. it does look a beast to hand hold being short and very heavy.

Whilst sorting out and uploading my BWPA entries I was looking through my unedited images from last years Skomer trip. A few caught my eye, so I thought I would share them. It was my first proper trip with the camera, I had only had a few go's in the house and garden.

Looking to go to Skomer myself next month. What's the best lens to take. ?.

I found I preferred a 70-200, you really don't need longer than 200mm as the Puffins are so close, at times within the minimum focus of the lens! All of the images above were taken at a distance of 2m and only at 120mm, 155mm and 200mm on the D750. This year I'm going light, I'm only taking a 24-120 and a 70-200 with a 1.4TC. The extras this year will be filters as they were something I missed taking last year, there are some great cliffs/rocks around. The only reason to take a long lens is for the Little Owls but I found whilst it was great to see them the photographic opportunities really are the Puffins.

Are you staying or a day trip?

Have a full day planned tomorrow, can't wait to give the D750 a good workout now it's finally back. 3am start for some Peak District inversion awesomeness then a full day of historic racing at Donington. Sweeeeet! First time out with the TC as well so I will see if I like it or not. It could be for sale on Sunday!
