Nikon D750 & D780

All my lenses barring one need fine tuning, but my 70-200mm is baffling me as it seems to change every time I put it on, and also differs with VR on to VR off. Test shots also conflict with real world shooting. With VR off both Dot Tune and graded lines at 45 degrees would suggest that it needs +20 or more, but to get the sharpest real world shots it needs +15 with VR off, and +12 with VR on. This is one of the reasons that I'm going to do the firmware update to see if there's some weird gremlin that sorts itself out. Also, when I send it in for the shutter issue after the Marathon I'll ask them to check the AF module (risky I know). Failing that I'm tempted to send in my lenses with the camera to be calibrated, I just don't like the idea of sending my 70-200mm through the post, and imagine cost with insurance will be hefty :( Obviously I'll not be able to send my Tammy or Siggy in though.

Off the top of my head:-
70-200mm f2.8 +12-15.
24-120mm f4 +2
50mm f1.8 +18
Tamron 150-600mm +5
Sigma 105mm f2.8 macro +6
18-35mm f3.5-4.5 0

Interesting, all front focussing. I will check the Tamron 70-200 once I return home.

Yep, hence why I think it's more an issue with the camera than the lenses per se.

Does anyone D750 have a rattle when you still it back and forth? Thought it may have been the pop up flash as read this was a noise problem online but its not my flash - sound like its from inside the body somewhere!

Just checked mine and there is a little rattle, probably one of the gyro's or whatever senses the camera orientation....

Well I guess it will give you your fix for 2 weeks. Then the regret sets in and you realise it's still not giving you what you don't even know what you want and the financial loss of about £300 when you sell it. There is no hope left for you. I tried to support you I really did.
I will just have to be there for a different GAS addict from now on.
May your never ending quest of camera lust bring you happiness for the remainder of your days.
Peace out bro!! Hehe

You did try, i give you that plus there are plenty of likely fodder here lol

Ive lost track of the thread a bit but how long are the returns to Nikon taking nowadays and are they still rushing the job and breaking them?

I emailed them last night asking but thought you guys might know (and be more honest)

Yeah, didn't someone post on here that they came back with AF faults and oil on the sensor?

Hmm ive heard oil on sensor on return, thats why wondered if Sneeklers AF issues started after his cam return

Don't think this new recall affects many people, so we haven't had a huge amount of chat about it.

Thought I would add a couple of pics:
Firstly, my Welsh Border collie, after having a swim at Hayle beach, in Cornwall:

And I know I am still new to the D750, but the amount of detail and cropability this sensor gives is still amazing to me.
Here is a quick shot of my dog concentrating on something:

And here is a crop of his right eye showing the reason for his attention:

My wife is about to throw the ball with the ball-thrower, and there's me with the camera.

I know, I know, old news but still exciting for me !
Loving the D750 !!

Lovely images. Lovely dog too

Thank you. When I see images taken with the 70-200 2.8, I always feel like getting one, but then I see how sharp my 80-200 is, and I save myself a fortune !

Don't say that lol as I've just got a 70-200 2.8 lol

It always front focussed but I think it is worse since it went back for the flare issue. I will get them to check when it goes back for the shutter issue.

I know, and a fine lens it is too !
To be honest, it's not a lens I use very much, I prefer primes, but having recently sold the 80-200, I refunded the buyer, as he was having cashflow problems.
Since then I've only used it a couple of times, but it's a nice lens, even if I really should get rid !

You have the shutter issue as well thats bad luck, werent there just 2 months manufacturing in 2014 that had the shutter problem according to nikons website?

No that was the second lot of recalls. Originally it was just the first ones made that they thought were affected, but then decided some after that were as well. In future I'm going to wait 6-12 months after launch before buying a new model.

So I bought my DTSE grip from Ebay (with the 20% off deal) a couple of days ago. As I was in no rush for it, opted for the shipped from China route (a lot cheaper). They advised an estimated arrival date between mid April to early May. Today I received an Amazon Parcel, opened it up only to find the grip!

How this/they works I haven't got a clue. I'm hoping now that if I don't get on with it, I'll be able to return it via Amazon too.

That is impressive. Like you say how does this work we don't know. Seems strange

Hopefully your grip works, mine's faulty and being sent back :(

Lovely photo's and a great looking dog.

I picked up a 80-200 f2.8 lens yesterday, seems a nice compact lens and from limited testing it seems like a nice lens and excellent value. It may be a little heavy for me at present, as still recovering from shoulder op' but may become a great going out set-up, with the 35-70 f2.8 lens I recently bought.

Nice expression.
Shame about the chain link fence, although I realise it's a zoo.
Have you tried a crop to eliminate the fence?

Yeah it's a zoo, trying not to detract from that. It's already a considerable crop as my max FL was 85mm

A lot of my shots from the day clearly show fences/enclosures etc and I don't mind that :)
