Nikon D750 & D780

I've not sent my d750 back and won't until I see something wrong with it myself. However I do think Nikon are feeling the heat at the moment. Only the other day they sent me a free USB stick with a letter thanking me for my custom. They wouldn't have done that if all was rosy.

That was instead of the more expensive diary that they have stopped sending out to NPS members as it was too expensive the usb sticks are cheaper to give away.

I haven't noticed any problems with my D750 that falls under the new recall but will send it back at some point has 50k on it at the moment will send it back when it hits 75k for a new sensor. :)

I had a diary this year so I'm not so sure you're right about that.

Interesting quite a few moaning about not getting one due to Nikon cut backs on facebook etc including Joe McNally who did a whole blog piece showing all his previous diaries.

Nikon themselves on the U.K twitter feed said no diaries this year but lots of new cameras.

Maybe I didn't get one then. But I was sure I'd had one.

Maybe thinking of last year

Yep they sent those out after getting a bit of a toasting about cut backs on facebook etc. They then got another toasting for sending out unbranded usb's.

Yeah quite likely. Time goes by so fast.

Sounds like they can't win. I quite liked the idea of the USB as I'm likely to use it than the diary :)

Yep seems a silly thing for people to get excited over. I think it was more because a lot of the long standing pro's had over 20 years worth of diaries and it had become a bit of a tradition thing.

Lol, the things people find to complain about ;) :p

A question for those who have converted their D750 eyepiece to the round one, how do you block the light entering when using the camera on a tripod ?
I'm guessing there is no plastic thingy which fits?

Definitely true, but not enough reduction in hassle for my liking to justify buying a second system. You got a 50mm 1.8G recently too, which could help lose some weight from the D750.

I'm certainly not trying to have a go at you or anyone else who holds a differing opinion to me either, just I personally found that a smaller system was not leading to me taking my camera out more often :)

The whole point of a CSC for me was holiday travels, and those days when I want to travel light. Was OK initially as I had the Sony A77 and Olly EM10 with 14-42mm Pancake. The Olly with pancake was reasonably small (could fit in a large jacket pocket although still a bit bulky tbh) and IQ wasn't too dissimilar to the Sony. However, I swapped the Sony for the D750 and all of sudden there was a larger gulf between my best camera and my CSC so I upgraded the CSC to the EM5-II and 12-40mm f2.8. Great camera, and great IQ, but bulk had gone up quite a bit meaning that it absolutely wasn't pocketable anymore and I have to use a sling strap, which begs the question is the DSLR really that much more of an inconvenience than the Olly? Sure there's still a weight and size difference, but on a sling strap you don't tend to notice it. I've been thinking over the last few weeks that I should get a compact camera for the times I really really want to travel light, and then for the times I use my Olly I might as well use my D750 with something like the 24-120mm F4. Gives better reach than the Olly 12-40mm (24-80mm) and still gives me one stop shallower DOF (f4 FF vs f2.8 M4/3). Not bothered about the light disadvantage as the ISO performance of the D750 is so good.

Too many bloomin choices

Dunno, never covered the eye piece with the round one or original and never found it an issue tbh, even with long exposures. But to use the VF cover don't you have to remove the original one anyway, can do the same with the round one. I don't even know where my VF cover is tbh, think it's probably still in the box

Of course you're right about removing the new eyepiece anyway, hadn't thought of that ! Duh!
I do tend to close the shutter eyepiece on the D700 when doing tripod stuff in bright light, but I suppose I can always shade it with my hand on the 750 !

For those of you who (including rookies) have not figured out yet which lens rookies is going to buy next , here 's an article that is gaining some momentum (more thrashing and less support so far) at dpReview.

It is a fun read of a photographer's view. He brings in some interesting points and it's a shame he failed to substantiate better with examples as the points he raised asks for solid discussion and debate in forums. He brings in some never heard terms - of course, he made it up), some are interesting, some are just meh.

He shoots two D750s and considers the 24-85 VR as a walk-around lens and the 24-70 2.8 Nikon as a work zoom lens.

Will be interesting to hear some of you opinions.

Just done a check on my serial number and I am affected. Think I shall wait for a bit and see how the early adopters get on!

So whats going to happen next is youre going to take your tiny little camera on holiday and get back and say.... wah wah wah, it wasnt good enough, then youre going to buy another system camera.

Just read that, all I can say is wtf?

Also the fact that he hasn't shot the same image with different lenses makes it impossible to take his claims seriously about stuff like '3D' characteristics

Or.... ditch it and take the D750 on holiday. That's what I'm doing anyway.

Does anyone know how long you get to send it back foc!
Mines affected by the latest recall, but I'm going the lakes in 4 weeks time on a landscape photography week, and obviously don't want to be with out it!
I've not seen any issues so am happy to take and use,but don't want to miss out on getting it sorted foc!

Its a recall so will remain FOC afaik.

Two system won't work for me - just because I am lazy. I have a workflow where I am used processing of raw files for a single body.

Throwing in something else will make me feel uncomfortable :p D750 is lightweight enough for me as long as I am not sticking the 70-200 in front of it.

I bought the X Pro-1 purely for travel, and a walkabout.
Small, light, and with a couple of primes, perfectly adequate for that purpose.
If I had gone on to buy some of the longer zooms, the weight becomes more of an issue, and then I would take the Nikon.
I don't quite get it when some-one buys a "small" system, then adds some big weighty lenses, sort of defeats the object for me at least.
Just my 2p's worth.

Cheeky but suppose it true lol

TBH that's my thoughts. Holidays are mainly snap shots so (hopefully) I'll not get too hung up on ultimate IQ, but for the odd trip where I know I want better IQ I can take the D750. But as Twist has pointed out, my fear is that I'll ditch the Olly and regret it o_O

TBH when I tried the RX100 M3 out, apart from the odd inconsistent sharpness IQ was almost a match for the Olly for general shots (except the horrible Sony colours :puke:), so for snap shots I'm sure a high end compact will be fine. The Nikon DL's sound promising in terms of IQ, if only they were the price of the G7x m1 and had the zoom lever in the right place ;)

Agreed, that's what I've found sticking the 12-40mm f2.8 on the Olly. OK, in reality it's a great deal smaller and lighter that the D750 with 24-70mm f2.8, or even the 24-120mm f4, but it still requires the good old sling strap (I hate bags and neck straps ;))

Camerasize doesn't have the 24-120mm f4 available to compare.

@snerkler the Canon Gx7 is a camera i have though about getting too for a pocket camera to stick in my pocket while on holiday for the night stroll along the front and at Restaurant as I don't like taking the big gear on those occasion as it mine and mrs time but having the pocket camera is handy just incase know what I mean...

Anyway I am started to love the My menu on this D750 as Toby as helped me on this and told me what to do and I have set a few things in there now that I like to alter now and again and it now very easy accessible buy pressing the FN button at the front of the camera :)

Custom wb is a must for Sony cameras imo. Don't bother with awb.

The 24-70 is where it's at.

Glad you're getting on with it better.

Fingers crossed I'll win a G7x on fleabay one day (or a reasonably priced one comes up on here) and then I'll see what the DL24-85mm offer when it comes out. There's a few things that bug me with the DL24-85mm (as there are with the G7x) but the ability to use filters and the hot shoe appeals. We shall see ;)

Maybe it I found a good used one, but i have been thinking the 24-120mm might be more useful ;)

If you going photography show maybe demo Nikon there??

Not going to one, plus I'd have to wait for the price to drop, not prepared to pay £530 for a 1" type compact with no viewfinder.
