Nikon D750 & D780

Yeah I just import and use the Thunderbolt for storage of what I'm keeping, that way the MBP doesn't fill up too much, I'm more disciplined than I was with my last Windows Laptop (1TB), fewer videos and things get kept on here and probably less software too actually.

Jury's out so far, not had much of a chance to try it with dire weather, etc this weekend, been playing with it inside though the booked at f1.4 is brilliant, not sure about the sharpness though been trying to AF fine tune.
Epic lens though, the size and weight are brilliant with the D750 and the build certainly is above the usual "G" line, having a look through a few shots just now.

I live in Wrotham and did your ma in law teach in the local primary? my better half works at the primary school.

Which watering hole? Wrotham maybe a small village but at one time we had one working mens club, three pubs and one small hotel. Now we are down too one small hotel and two pubs.

That will be the George & Dragon in the high st. Must admit I live in the village but never go to any of the pubs. Well not since the the early 80s, when married life kicked in.

The problem is that at F1.4 the DOF is stupidly shallow, so half the time when you look at an image and it's not as sharp as you think it should be, you might've missed critical focus by a fraction, because when you get it bang on, it's got plenty of sharpness even wide open at the focal point. Not often I use at 1.4 though for that very reason.

Save your money and get a Surface Pro.

Howd you get on with the fine tune? Does look soft. I think @paulcamcas had to send his to Nikon for tuning. Read a few reports online about this lens.

Yeah looking at the FM thread there does seem to be alot of variation in the sharpness with this lens not sure if it's down to user or quality. The one I tried in the nikon store seemed sharp enough on the rear screen of the d810 it was mounted on. But that has been what's held me off hitting the buy button. Maybe this year I've take the plunge.

Not had much luck with the fine tune actually, even "soft" it seems better with nothing than anything else I do.

I hadn't given the possibility of lens variation much thought given most Nikon lenses seem ok but it could be that.

Yes your probably right actually, its more "glowy" than other f1.4 lenses I've used.

Could be a bad copy but I've read more people say its soft than not. But I've seen better results than yours. Could be cos you were at MFD some fast primes suffer at MFD.
 
Is it just slow shutter speed introducing a tiny bit of shake? Not a fan of the 58mm but it does usually look better than that as twist says.

Hmm, its a lot of cash, might get it swapped.
 
Does anyone use the Nikon 300mm f4 af-s (non vr) on their D750? I'm tempted to downgrade for weight/costs/insufficient use reasons but want a replacement to get me around 300-400mm. I had a Nikon 300 f4 af-s previously and it was a great lens. I have heard rumours some 300 f4 's don't play nicely with the d750. Another option maybe a sigma 300 f2.8 but their previous quality control worries me slightly.

I just moved mine on but it worked perfectly fine with the D750, also with the 1.4 TC.

(I've just noticed the map thing, I'm down in Chatham Kent, right next to Rochester Airport ).
