Nikon D750 & D780

I have done very well for myself in keeping GAS in control over the last few weeks. Attended the London photo show and missed visiting the Nikon stall (no regret) to test the D500 (not that I intended to buy) and also missed the Park Camera stall for the Tamron 35 1.8. All I did was go around listen to talks, live photo shoots and managed to shoot a couple of models which was immense fun.

I am lazy enough by nature and think I should go out more often and shoot with what I have rather than contemplate on buying new lenses. While I don's agree with Jack Arias on several other things one thing I highly agree with him is stick to one or two lenses and shoot until you have outgrown their usage.

Well, I said I agree that does not mean I have full control over GAS :D

The fact that Twist hasn't bought and sold at least 4 by now just shows how expensive/overpriced they are :eek: ;)
 
I wonder how the bokeh compares to the old cream machine 85 1.4D ...

As for GAS, I`ve only acquired two lenses in the last month or so ;)
 
I do enjoy star shots, I've planned a trip to Dungeness soon (darkest place in Kent) so just hope it's clear when I go. Had it planned for a week ago but was cloudy :(

Where did you find a 24-120mm f4 for £400, online store such as MPB and LCE are £500-550 for a decent used one?
 
Not recently, I got mine for £250 here, I wasn't sure for a long time but I really liked it the other day, closest thing perhaps to the 135L (nudge nudge Sigma!)

£260 on ebay (link) - with offer option.

If it is get in touch given that they'll lose 10% from ebay charges they may well relist it and grab a bargain.

If you don't mind me saying I think it could have done with a tad more light as it looks a little underexposed to me and the WB looks a little warm. Of course I realize that this might just be the effect you were after. If it was then just ignore my comments m8.:D

Jack Arias is an American photographer/instructor. He is better as an instructor than a tog from what I have seen. He became famous in the tog circuit and then he became broke as he fell into the dark side of GAS. After that he came back again slowly building his work. Now he shoots a Fuji system officially ditching DSLR and claiming that mirror-less is the best thing since sliced bread.

He speaks a lot about why people should not keep on buying stuff they don't really need. I agree to part of his story. He was a Nikon shooter before he switched to Fuji.
 
Hope we are done with the 58 F1.4 now as both David and Chris are looking for the 50 mm 1.8 and 1.4 versions :D. Let's get back to D750.

What do you guys use for cleaning the sensor and any recommendations? I noticed a few dust bunnies after around 3500 shutter actuation. Will use the blower, but was wondering what people use here as wet and dry techniques. Anyone uses the Eyelid stick?

Works fine for me (though I haven't experienced major dust issues) but be careful to get it from a good known source, there have been some issues with people buying cheap and ending up with sticky gel on their sensors! :)

To be fair, he might have ditched DSLRs, but he still shoots with a Phase One :D
 
For those looking for a fast 85 prime, Tamron has filed a patent for a 85 F1.4 version with VC. I hope they come up with a 135 prime with VC as well

I would love to have a VC or VR on a 85 mm prime. I love my 85 f1.8G, but in low light it is difficult to handhold under 1/60th of a second

I'd still love to try a Nikkor 135mm f2 DC as a portrait lens.

I'd love to as well. The DC lens can be set to create some unique images. If on a budget and happy with manual focusing, the Samyang 135 F2 is one of the sharpest lenses named and it won't break the bank at £350

Can that Samyang 135mm f2 be used on full frame ok ? I've had a few Samyang lenses in my time and for the money they're excellent.

I know some-one with the Samyang, and it is a sharp lens indeed. It was that which made me take a punt on the Samyang 85mm f1.4, amazingly sharp, even @1.4
The Zeiss though is a work of art. Being an Apo lens, it is the opposite of the Nikon 135 DC when it comes to how it renders. Beautiful, but in a much different way.
The Nikon deliberately focuses the red wavelength on a different plane, which is what gives it the amazing skin rendering it produces.
Maybe one day, Nikon, or Sigma will produce a 135 f2, or even f1.8, but it won't be a DC, I'll bet.
I'm so looking forward to getting my 135 onto a D750, Soon, my precious !

Yes it is a full frame lens as long as you don't mind manual focus.
