Nikon D750 & D780

Thanks Anirdan

I've ordered the Meike grip with wireless controller from Amazon as I've always used a grip and didn't fancy using the overpriced Nikon grip, I watched and read loads of review about the Meike and Pixel grip and the Mieke won for my needs.
Let us know your experience with the Meike grip. I might consider one later.

I have the meike grip for my d700......Not as good build quality wise, but at around 1/4-1/5 of the price, you can't complain!!

Most likely go for the Meike's for the D750 too.....

Already got 4 spare batteries! - don't even have the camera's yet! :)

Mike grip and Hoya pro1 UV just arrived from Amazon and as stated in the reviews it's not as sturdy as the Nikon but it fits well and the camera feels better in my hand with the grip plus as an added bonus I now have a wireless controller.

I can't wait until Saturday to go and give it a try lets hope it's not raining.

Meike grips are great for the money just be careful not to over tighten them as I had an issue recently where I just simply couldn't get one of one our D750's. Ended up spending a frustrating 45 minutes destroying the grip and a few precision screw drivers to eventually remove it.

Having never used a grip before I have a simple question - I know it helps in shooting images in portrait orientation, stability with larger lenses and doubles up battery power, but are there any downsides in day to day shooting or while shooting on casual travel breaks ? I can think of extra weight as one, but that's where my assumptions ends.

Will the Meike wireless controller only work if the grip is also attached?

I tend to leave the grip off when travelling, just so its lighter and easier to handle.....

The grip just makes the camera feel nice and well balanced in your hand with like a 24-70 or 70-200......obviously, with the above usual benefits of a grip.........

Yes. The controller only works with the grip attached.
Yes, the grip does appear to be a bit "plasticy" when compared to the D750 (I felt the same about the D750 when compared to the D3s!) I don't know how it compares to the Nikon version as I've not seen one (Has anyone?) but for £75.00 I don't care! :-)

It is actually between £45-£55 on Amazon with or without the remote.

Great picture, but you can defiantly tell the difference between this and your other shots. Not sure I would fancy a 70-300 without VR/VC!

Stupid forum!! There was a third reply which i didn't edit... Honest.

I totally agree JJ. F5.6 and a bobbing baby make for some dire shots.

With regards to iso, this was with +75 sharpening and no noise reduction.

Not sure whether to up the iso for this wedding i have in November or to go the flash route... Thoughts?

I used a SB700 and Tamron 28-75 when I did a wedding. Flash was mainly off camera though.

Bonkers for 12800 though

Why did you buy non VC ?

Needed something cheap for a planned weekend in the Lake District but the weather seems to have put the kibosh on those plans. Doubt it will be stopping though. Optically it seems sweet as a nut but it was only purchased for a one off shoot.

Might just return it to Amazon. ;)

Was wondering the same as I had the Tamron VC version and it was quite good for the money.

GGS Lamour arrived today. Just need my camera back to put it on!

Any tips to not getting dust etc under it? Put it on in a science lab that's free of any air pollution what so ever?!

comes with a cleaning wipe so dust wont be a problem. DON'T use dusty hands!!;)

To avoid dust, go into the bathroom, run a hot bath or shower to fill the air with moisture which will reduce the amount of airborne dust then just fit the thing - obviously a good clean with the cloth to remove fingerprints too...

I've got my D750 but waiting for my GGS Lamour to arrive, we could combine them then we'd both be happy.

Not getting time to shoot with my new toy. Sharing a food photo I shot while testing the SB700 with the D750

Just a couple more questions.....

How many RAW files can a 16 or 32GB card hold? I'll need to buy a number of cards, but would rather have mutiples of smaller cards as opposed to large cards in case of failure, even though it does have a dual card slot.....

Also, what speed card should I be getting? I've seen the Sandisk Extreme Pro (95MB/s), but I won't be machine gunning, so I don't think I need them to be super fast......Would I notice these write speeds when transferring to the computer too?

Thanks in advance.

I got told the original Meike ones had Meike written on the front the copies don't have it on the front, the one I got off Amazon had Meike written on the front. I now need to get the Meike off the front of my grip!

Hairdryer and some nail polish remover should do the trick.
