Nikon D750 & D780

Okay, got home and managed to do some quick tests with the 85 F1.8g and the 24-85 VR. Initial impressions

1. Body feels wider than D610 for some reason. felt the sane at store as well. Grip is better
2. The left info button is bit of a mess now as I had the ISO on D610 and need to get used to. Assigned record button to ISO and it is great.
3. Autofocus is excellent in low light and the diff with D610 is evident.
4. Shutter sound is louder and clunkier than D610
5. High ISO is definitely better than D610 - more in terms of lack of purple noise and not the noise itself. this is good as the images will require kess color noise correction.
6. Shot a few images at ISO 9000 and up and it retains sharpness and colour so well. Impressed.
7. I am udsed to CNX2 as my raw converter and need to learn LR or use raw2nef with CNX2

I registered my Panamoz D750 in my Nikon EU account as soon as I got it. When I sent it to Nikon UK for the flare issue check, I enclosed the invoice from Panamoz. Ditto when it was returned to Nikon after it failed immediately when I got it back.

Not a mention, in emails or phone calls, about where I bought it.

The camera's language was set to Chinese/Japanese when I started it, so I guess that the warranty docs had been removed (I did get a UK plug for the charger and an English language manual though).
 
When powered for the first time, it showed language setting selection and was set to English by default.

Any idea what's the difference between the supplied MH25a and MH25 I have from my D610?

Set my camera using Nasim's recommended settings for the time being. Will change based in how J shoot and also assign U1 and U2 later.

On the hunt for my second D750 after flogging the XT1. The Fuji love affair is almost over :oops: :$

Few quick questions for D750 users using LR

1. What is this clarity setting? Do you use specific in-camera clarity settings and does it reflect once you have the images in LR or is it only relevant for Nikon s/w.
2. Anyone uses flat profile for still images? Does it help in LR to bring out the best from your NEFs?
3. I noticed the nefs from D750 look better than D610 in LR - seems like Adobe managed to get some of the secret Nikon sauce in the camera profiles, but is there any other raw converter that renders an image close to what ViewNX2 or CNXD does?

I have been a users of CNX2 for 8 years now and it is a difficult switch for me. I tried LR before , but moved back to CNX2. I have tested the D750 and D810 nefs with raw2nef converter and use the files on NX2, but just wondering what others are using and are happy with.
 
The problem with following someone else's settings is you never work out what's better for you or if there is sometime that's available that could work better for you. There are several settings in there that I do the opposite of, that's mainly as I shoot different subjects. Things like using AF-S or AF-C or the number of focus points are very situation dependant, sometimes one or the other is better. Saying things like 'I use 51 AF points' without saying why doesn't help you make an informed decision. It's just as easy to read the manual, read what the options are and work out what suits you.

1. As far as I'm aware, Lightoom (or any other non-Nikon RAW editor) will completely ignore any in camera settings such as Landscape, Flat, Vivid etc. So you need CNX2 or D to get the best of that.
2. See 1.
3. I haven't noticed that myself in using both D610 and D750 RAWs with LR - the only way to get the real goodness is to use CNX2 like the good old days - I've been raw2nef converting to them to do this, then changing the EXIF back to D750 etc for cataloguing purposes.

Thanks. Great to see another CNX2 users not yet giving up :D. What do you use to change the exif to D750? I thought the conversion is more than just setting the exif to use with CNX2.

Nope :) sometimes it gets colours and contrasts LR can't quite get! When I've converted the file using raw2nef, I use a program called EXIF Editor on the mac to rename it back to D750.
 
My camera might be back by the weekend! Mis-aligned focus something or other. I wasn't really listening as was more excited at getting it back lol.
 
You can set Lightroom to automatically apply Nikon camera profiles on import to LR. Or you can apply them manually.How they compare to Nikon's software I can't say.
 
More often than not I prefer the colours of the jpegs to RAW in LR, such a shame jpegs have such little flexibility in comparison.

That is the reason I use CNX2 as the Nikon processing in jpeg you see in LR are similarly rendered in raw files on Nikon sw.

Shame it doesn't have the same level of features as LR then as that'd be great.

The only way to achieve the same colours in LR is to save the files as tiff in VNX2/CNX2/CNXD aNd then work with the tiff files in LR.

Hmmm, bit of a long workflow and large files. I'll just have to stick with what I'm doing, worked so far ;)

I've had my Fuji XPro-1 kit for sale for a while now, but no interest, sadly.
I need to sell this before I get my D750.
 
Evening all..... Im using a cheapo (from Amazon) Wired Intervalometer. I want a wireless one ...... The one I've seen but cant find has a receiver this sits on the hot shoe and the remote is programmable!

Do any of you know which one I mean?

Do you have one??

Hahnel do one.... it works really well. Can't remember the model number but the early ones had a problem which they fixed with the MkII.

Lighting was on camera flash bounced off a wall behind me, will try some ocf stuff soon.

All great shots and compositions. I see some banding on the sky on the last one - could be compression from lower res image.

I will be in Bruges and Ghent this weekend to test the D750. Some of your compositions have given me some ideas. So much to learn :-)
 
It's definitely the upload causing the banding there, a RAW file would have none of that. Great shots!

That's what I thought as well. See that often happening with some sites like FB and also sometimes here as the files are further compressed. On Flickr, it usually looks fine with a high res image,
 
My D750 arrived on Monday morning after ordering from Panamoz on Thursday so from ordering including the weekend only 4 days to arrive. I only got time to open it this morning as I've been really busy.
All good, I got the kit with the 24-120mm as I'm going to New York in January and I think the 24-120mm will come with me instead of the 24-70mm as I'll have a little more reach at 120mm, I'll also take the 14-24mm.

Just checked my serial against the flare issue and no problems, I've not taken a shot with it yet as I'm just setting the menus U1 U2 etc to my liking, I'll get out with it on Saturday and see if it was worth the upgrade from the D610.

The post at the top of the page is a nice little comparison against the D610, I love the B&W close-up shot of your daughter and finally thanks for the link to the youtube videos I've seen the 1st video but I've not seen the 2nd I'll watch that later,

Happy shooting with the D750 Billy. My story is similar in terms of ordering and upgrading from D610. I have only used the D750 for an evening taking a few causal shots I am finding the following more as a good upgrade from the D610 in addition to my post above

1. Grip and holding - D610 felt less wider and D750 is better in terms of operating with the controls on the left. One thing D610 was good at was holding the camera facing on right hand by the grip. due to less space between the grip and the lens as a natural lock, it used to feel more secure. With the D750 the gap is more and has its own advantages, but not a big deal as I use a sling strap always.

2. The Ok button 1:1 zoom - It is simple and a great feature. Loving it
3. Titled screen
4. IQ - can't comment much now until I do some shooting, but I think the only advantage I have seen is much less purple noise compared to D610 on high ISOs and jpegs will be cleaner
5. Colour seems bit muted on the D750 compared to D610 on same settings - makes no difference rather allows flexibility in post. Of course the picture styles can be set to one's preferences
6. Due to change in design, the D750 feels slightly front heavy compared to D610. This will more prominent with longer and heavier lenses, but I am sure people get used to it anyway. My 24-85 leans forward and rests on lens edge when kept on table and not like the D610 body where the body held the lens firmly.

I've ordered the Meike grip with wireless controller from Amazon as I've always used a grip and didn't fancy using the overpriced Nikon grip, I watched and read loads of review about the Meike and Pixel grip and the Mieke won for my needs.
