Nikon D750 & D780

Anyone got a remote wireless release for the D750 - the Nikon ML-L3 comes up on a search but on Amazon they don't mention it as compatible and I don't want to spend a lot on something that is unlikely to get much use..

So, recommendations please !

It does work, but you can't use continuous burst with it (at least not from my experience) and so bought a wireless remote instead.

I'm confused - the ML-L3 is wireless - can you tell me which remote you use as continuous burst might be useful to me.

It's only a phrase I've used because an older generation of photographers on facebook groups have used it to belittle how I work; it's like somehow if you hold down your shutter long enough, composition and focus would magically fall into place. When compared to film wedding photography, it is of course very different, but from reading books on documentary/war photography where capturing humans was key, those guys often burned through film when they were in the moment.

I shoot up to about 4000 images at a wedding where a lot is going on. A large bulk of it is little pockets of the same scene.

I also (short) burst shoot the family photos. Again, old pros say you don't need to do that if you have 'good technique' for making people look at you and have your eyes open. The thing is, the old film pros weren't competing for attention with about 40 phone/ipad cameras. I have my own techniques for getting good family (in)formals.

Not sure how anyone can belittle your work with a straight face your stuff is great regardless of how you achieve your result.

Cheers, Tommy. I appreciate that. It's because of our way of shooting that we get the shots that we get.

That's something I will bear in mind at our next wedding. We would usually especially for group shots take a few images but it would probably make sense to just shoot them on continuous to curtail the blinkers.

Thinking of making the move the FX from my d7100, not disappointed with the 7100 but low light performance would come in handy. Is everyone happy with the 750?

Yes and no - but im the exception! I'm not gaining much from my D610 and although its a cracking camera, for me, the D610 is doing everything I need it to do. Mines now in classifieds (shamless plug!).

I moved to FX from a D7100 and loved it the moment I took my first pics!

well it is just a slightly updated version of the D610 isnt it? few fors and against each one from what I've read, if I can get chance Ill see if I can find a shop with both in and double check which I prefer but the 750 looks cracking to me. and if its still for sale once I have been a member long enough to entre the classifieds Ill have a look!

What pro's does the D610 have over the D750 other than cost?

Having owned both the D7000 and D7100 the D750 is a massive improvement. The noise is pretty clean upto 6400 where as with the DX bodies i hated anything over 800/1000. Never really struggled with AF before so i can't say it's a big step up for me but the new grip is a real bonus. One thing of note though, the AF points are pretty bunched up compared to DX but you get used to it after a while.

Agreed the D750 is just way way better than the DX D7100, no comparison .......... and it is a fair progression over the D700, (although the D700 is still very good)

The DX sensors still seem to be very noisy over ISO 640/800 ...... and they are not too great even at those settings ........ not sure why when the D750 is good up to ISO 2000 on cropped images

Cost, its such a bragain way to get in to FX... plus.. i'm the minority crowd he prefer the grip and the buttons.

So what lenses are you using as I need to cost up some lenses too. Currently cover a broad range with my dx (sigma 10-20mm, tamron vc 90mm macro, niton vr2 70-300mm, 30mm prime and stock lens which I never use.

Started doing a few weddings and enjoy my motorsport so thinking a 50mm prime, read the tamron telephoto lens is pretty good for the money and maybe a low to mid zoom for general use initially? Any lenses recommended to look into?

Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 VRII is my favourite, superb lens and would make a nice lens for weddings imo to have alongside your 50mm prime. I have the Tamron 150-600mm and am very impressed with it.

Sigma 24 1.4 ART
Sigma 35 1.4 ART
Sigma 50 1.4 ART
Tamron 70-200 2.8 VC

Thats a great site - very very handy, worth noting though that after Amazon has added its 3% (or whatever it is) for converting to Euro theres a bit of a bump, but still generally much cheaper and depending on the company involved you'll have the same warranty - like with Tamron.

Although Snapsort can be a bit meh on times, but comparing the D610 vs D750 there doesn't seem to be any advantage of the D610 apart from cost. As David mentioned above, there is only a £190 difference and if I was in your shoes I would save the extra. As for the grip, the comment from JJ! is the only, I think I have read, where the grip is not an advantage or prefrence. I find it far better than the D7000, D7100 I have owned and the D610 I tried. That is personal prefrence and I agree with him to choose the D610 if it feels better in the hand. Bit pointless having a camera which isn't comforatble to use.

The biggest advantage for me of the D750 over the D610, the much improved AF being one of them, the D600/610 was woeful in low light whereas the D750 can lock on in almost pitch darkness.
The D750 to me also feels much better built than the D6xx level bodies,

As already said, the D750 is better (or equal) in every way other than cost.

Totally agree with the AF of the 750 over the 610 and I own both!
Personally I was a little disappointed with the build quality of the 750 as Nikon class it in their professional range!
The buttons on my 610 seem tighter somehow,in a nice way, especially the mode dial release button which feels very sloppy on my 750,but in no way affects its performance!
Maybe it's just my OCD!

Had a very strange encounter with my D750. During a wedding shoot, the mirror kept locking up. Couldn't figure it out at first what was going on but during a break realised figured out the mirror lock issue. Now miraculously its working fine!!

The D750 is definitely not as solid as any of Nikons pro cameras though it punches well above its weight when it comes to AF and IQ.

I've been using the D750 (my first FX) this year for motorsport (mostly karting) and have been really impressed with it compared to the D7100. I use a 70-200 F2.8 VRII and a F4 300 (not the new one) most weekends, the D7100 only comes out for wide pit and paddock stuff with the Sigma 10-20 fitted, as I haven't anything for the D750 yet. I do use a 24-70 F2.8 for prizegivings and some pit work though.
The extra ability to crop hard and to use high ISOs in poor winter light really helps me out. I have rarely used the screen though as I found the focussing too slow in live mode for racing action.
I used a 1.4TC with the F4 300 recently and whereas it was bit hit and miss with the D7100, it works really well with the D750.
The grip is great for carrying the camera around all day with a tele lens attached and I haven't had any button problems, including using BBF.

Exactly the same as my experience (flare fix messed up the AF) except it's now FIVE weeks and as well as calling, I've emailed numerous times. They responded once and it's since gone dead. It's pretty shocking for a 'Pro service.'
I bit the bullet and called Nikon again yesterday. They hadn't called me back and still haven't replied to the email I sent on Saturday.

After being on hold for a few minutes while the workshop manager was consulted, I was told yet again that they haven't been able to reproduce the error (which is a surprise, since my D750 was barely functional when I sent it back to them!), but they had decided to replace the main PCB (image system board?) as a precaution. The bad news was that they were waiting for a shipment of these parts, but the good news was that they were due in today - but coming through Calais, so what could possibly go wrong!

The status of my repair has changed today to 'awaiting parts', but the cynic in me thinks that they have been stalling in the knowledge that they haven't had the part for the repair in stock for a while and haven't had the bottle to tell me. What they had been telling me didn't add up - if they couldn't reproduce the problem over the best part of two weeks, why didn't they just send it back to me?

I wonder if it's the same with yours Deci or do I need to get a new tin foil hat?

lol, nice pics - wide open no doubt ;)

Was that just to wind me up? Still manual focus on the fly if you can!

Lol. If you check back through my Flickr stream you will see i too have a preference to shooting wide open. I haven't made changes to my style just for you. :P And i have never needed to overide the focus either. ;)

After seeing these shots David I know I need a short prime !
