Nikon D750 & D780

Next year I will have a back up body but hopefully not for this kind of reason. I generally can't really justify a back up for what I do but it sure would be handy at times.

D700 cameras can be had cheaply and it's still an absolutely terrific bit of kit

Still trying to find what is the limit on this camera for me,had it on auto ISO today 4000 max, this shot was a take it as is or miss it,it was two nearly two stops underexposed even at ISO 4000 but ime pleased with what came out.

I know it's been said many times before, but the shadow recovery is just phenomenal. I took mine to a wedding last weekend and there's a couple of shots where I have been able to recover detail I thought not possible before.

Did contemplate one once. Hoping next year to do a couple of paid jobs to fund such a luxury, hopefully push it to another D750, especially now they're sub £1k.

Guys, is anyone using either the 150-600 Tamron or Sigma?

Looking for a mega telephoto for some landscape stuff and also to giveotoraport another bash with the D750 but wondered if anyone has any experience with them.

Yes. Some of the more recents posts of mine in transport were shot with this combo (tamron) and decided after my first outing to sell my Nikon 300 f4. As I shoot props, my ss is 1/250 typically which can be a pain at 500/600mm as you need to be spot on with panning!

Theres a few on the page or two before as well - I was asking about the Tamron.

Look a page or two back on this thread, and also there's a specific thread about it to ;)

My Sigma 105 Macro turned up yesterday and I tried a few snap shots and very pleased with the performance, it seems like a very sharp lens. Also bought another 50 1.8g and again excellent, but after my intitial trial with the Sigma it's got me wondering how good the ART series of lenses must be. Must not look as I need to save for my long lens!

As did my Tamron 90, looks good so far but haven'y had chance to play - I was surprised though that the AF was actually pretty snappy, which I wasn't expecting from a macro.

Have you tried taking your D750 back to where you bought it. Surely they should replace it, all the problems your having. I would go see them.

I have posted back to Nikon today so will see what they have to say after inspection, all depends on how they handle this one. I have images before and after so am certain the mark wasn't there before it went back.

You must be so disappointed, surely Nikon should give you a new one.

So then... This Milky Way and Meteor shooting... o_O

It is so hard! focusing was a bitch. Light pollution was a bitch... Not being able to see b****r all was a bitch... You get the idea.

Still, managed a few. Got in at 2am then got up a few hours later to process a couple. I'm all shaky!

Got a few shots to make panorama's with and some HDR stuff too.

More to follow!

Ha, hardly. This was easy by comparison to parenting! It's the wife who deserves the credit for looking after them whilst @AdamTudor and i go galavanting.

I saw a blog the other day that said the new Dehaze slider in LR was great for getting rid of light pollution and making the night sky really pop.

Not got LR but i read its not a lot different to clarity in ACR

Great set of image yet again David @minnnt , I like them all very much.(y)

George.

Great pics, David - did you expose for the sky in the second pic and use the D750's amazing DR for the land?

Hello mate. How's the lens?

I just boshed a L.E. off when i saw the vehicle going up the hill. I mis-timed it a little as there is a gap at the start and it finished before they had reached the top so it's got a bit cropped off it at the bottom. It was pot luck that it turned out ok.

So, thanks to a little encouragement by a member here on TP (you know who you are..) I may be about to buy my first ever (digital) Nikon - a D750.

I guess a 24-120 f4 will be my first lens, and a second, longer zoom, ideally longer than the usual 70-200. Max aperture doesn't have to be wider than f4. Something wide would be nice too.
A flash of some sort and a remote release will also be needed.

Given that I know nothing about Nikon or compatible gear what would you suggest I start adding to my list to be looking at ?

Obviously, money isn't freely flowing but I do like quality rather than cheap.

Any help much appreciated!

The lens is amazing - I love it. You will need to check out the 70-200 f4 or the big boy for your D750 :)

Yep, the 24-120 is a great start, nice and flexible, although some more knowledgeable might suggest the Sigma 24-70 2.8, but thats very much down to a length preference, plus I expect the weight is a bit more.

Give me a week or two and I'll be able to advise on the Tamrons 150-600 and 70-200 2.8 VC, but for now I've found the 85mm 1.8G very nice indeed.

Thanks John - I used to own both the Canon 24-70 f2.8 and the 24-105 f4 and always struggled to choose as the extra length was great but so was the extra speed. Seems the D750's low light capabilities do away with the need for the extra speed, and I have often heard that extra length would be nice..
It would be great to hear what you think of both your new lenses - having had the Olympus 40-150 (ie 80-300mm on FF) I would like something that comes close to that but am open to any suggestions, and would assume that the 70-200VC has some sort of TC if needed...

Funnily enough I've heard it said here that the vc doesn't take a tc
Luckily I never liked tcs anyway, for reach I'll look to the biggie

24-120 is a great lens if you don't "need" f2.8, I bought one with my D750 and then sold it as at the time I wanted to keep the f2.8 of the Tamron 24-70, however after a holiday and a rethink of my lineup I've just bought another one, it should serve me fine as most of my shooting is done at smaller apertures anyway. Its easily as good as the Tamron is and the extra 50mm is very handy!

I took delivery of a Tamron 150-600 today and managed to get out for a quick shot, and it seems excellent, a bit of a handful but focuses well and the images seem nice and sharp! I'm looking forward to getting out with it for some firework shots in Edinburgh over the next week or so, I have to say though 150mm on the "short" end is almost too long for some things but having the 24-120 will all but bridge that gap if needed.... I might even consider a second D750 for when I'm shooting with both lenses!

Truth be told I was close to selling the D750 and going over to Fuji or Sony but the quality of shot I got when on my holiday was just stupendous and I've re-committed to my DSLR setup with the (re)purchase of a stellar 18-35, the 24-120 f4 and the 150-600... just need a nice small 35mm prime and my kit is done for a long time I'd think...... I keep telling myself that a smaller system would mean I take it everyday but the D750 + 50 f1.8G has been in my bag all week without complaint, its about picking the right lens as much as anything!

The 24-120 f4 is a great lens - I've no idea why it gets trashed in some places. When I first got it I was expected sub par results, especially wide open at the focal range ends. But I'm delighted with the results, it's a sharp lens with a great range, constant aperture, quick focusing & decent IS - it's a great deal if you can pick it up at 'kit' prices imo.

So what about suggestions for something longer, more in the 100-300 range ?
Again, f4 should be wide enough for me, but the usual 70-200 just isn't long enough ..
