Nikon D750 & D780

Well, looks like I'll be joining you guys soon too - I've not managed to order the body yet (waiting on BACS info), but I did just buy a 85mm 1.8G to go with the camera I don't yet own

Which brings me to essential accessories. Am I right in thinking expro are still the best 3rd party batteries?

Anything else I should look to get on Amazon prime before it turns up, like a really good strap, car charger, a top notch SD card?

Any recommendations appreciated as I'm on holiday from Sunday and could give it a real baptism of fire

That might have happened to some, but I don't see myself in that group. Mine (bought in October) performed perfectly from the start.

It happens to be in the range of the bodies that Nikon think could be 'affected' by the flare issue - I never saw it, but I didn't go looking for it.

With hindsight, I suppose there was no need to return it, but I can only see my problem as being a result of the repair, not the manufacturing. If anything, it might be down to the QC at Nikon UK.

Nikon will definitely replace the camera if the internals keep shorting out. Live view can also be effected.

Edited to add - I do feel your pain and frustration. It happens to me on my first D750 went I sent it away to get the internal flare issue resolved. Nikon were as good as gold and sent me a brand new replacement.

Sorry to drag up old issues but this isn't much different to the issues with the d800 af, many were returned with faults and had to be sent back again. Mine was worse after being sent in, with the left being better and the middle out.
I heard back then that Nikon won't replace the camera unless its been into the either 3 or 5 times with the same issue,(I'm sure this was someone in the eu had queried them after his was returned 3 times). I would contact the seller in this regard, Mine was replaced by them as I wasn't happy the camera came back worse(which they confirmed).

I keep going to pull the trigger on one as they look to be great cameras, but the constant stream of issues as put me off after the whole fiasco with the d800.

Adding a spare Ex-Pro battery will give you a potential 2,500+ shots in total so i would say you won't be needing an in car charger. ;)

As for cards, i would look at the Sandisk Extreme Pro 95mb a second jobbies. They're actually better priced than i thought at about £25 for a 32gb card. Not sure how big you need but the 64gb is £46 i think.

Add a GGS Larmor screen protector to the order, mine have been perfect fits for both screens > http://www.amazon.co.uk/LARMOR-Self...7293020&sr=8-3&keywords=d750+screen+protector

No idea if this is of any use to you, but the buffer seems much better with the Sandisk Pro's. Again, depends if you need to clear the buffer quicker?

Thanks for that. I don't do much spraying and praying and the lexar seams to clear the buffer fast enough for me for the the odd occasion when I do.
I don't think that for me, it is worth paying double for the sandisk for the extra speed that it gives.

I've got a couple of the Sandisk 60mb/s cards so i will give those a go first and see how i get on. I don't machine gun so i guess i should be ok, but i do like the computer to read the cards a little quicker.

Nice find David, I had that in the back of my head - I'd seen those somewhere and was going to try and find them again - thats why I was thinking of getting some new SDs rather than just using the ones I had.

I don't spray and prey, in fact I rarely take more than a couple of shot burst, but I do want to be able to if I suddenly need to.

^^^ this. I use the Ex pro batteries and they work perfectly, and also the Sandisk Extreme Pro 95mb/s. The battery life on the D750 is nothing short of staggering. Last weekend I shot 2722 shots with one battery and it still had a bit of life left. Admittedly I was using a lot of continuous burst shooting but still. I had it set so RAW was stored in slot one and jpeg in slot 2.

EBay item number 371385845951 looks interesting.
That charger doesn't look as though it would take those batterie's to me

The benefit is that it also comes with 2 batteries for just under £28, which as far as I can see, is cheaper than buying 2x batteries on their own. The same seller is selling just the 2 batteries for £32, a bit strange.

lol, you're all mad - its a composite image - the charger will be correct, also I checked the feedback and at least one person was happy with that exact item ;)

BTW thanks all, I'd plumped for:

Dual charger and batteries from ebay (I had a £15 voucher) - link - £27.97
SanDisk Extreme PRO 32GB (just one, the other card can be a "normal" 45MG one as I'll use it for overflow rather than dual writing) - link - £25.99
GGS LARMOR IV Self-Adhesive Optical Glass LCD Screen Protector for Nikon D750 - link - £11.50

So far (before ordering!!) thats £65.46, not to mention £250 on a 85mm 1.8G - nice to be prepared though :D

Tamron 70-300 ordered, only £250 new with a 5 year warranty, looks like it might be slightly sharper than the Nikon one!

How's the Tamron performing on the D750 Chris?

As you know, I have also had the Nikon version but prefered the Tamron when using on my DX D7000. Just interested to hear your views on FF use, as I may buy one as a lightweight zoom for when going out.

I don't assume ANYTHING on eBay these days ;)

It's brilliant Simon, I only got the camera on Thursday (also brilliant) so I have had limited use so far, I went out Friday afternoon with the Tamron (yesterday I took the 24-120mm). Very pleased with the results. It was my most used lens on the D7000 (which I am keeping) and I cant see that changing on the D750.
I wouldn't really call it a light weight zoom though, not by any stretch of the imagination. It is something you get used to though;).

Thanks for that Chris, but it's the 70-300mm I'm interested in. You've linked the 150-600mm.

I have been thinking about the 150-600mm lenses and thay are going to be too heavy for me handholding, so would be for home use only, on a tripod. After owning the 300mm f4 prime I'm edging towards that again and have the 70-300mm for going out.

Oops sorry Simon, wrong Chris lol.
I thought the other way around when I had the Tamron and Nikon versions of the 70-300mm very little to choose between them for image quality but I thought the Nikon was just that bit faster to focus and focused more accurately too, so I kept the Nikon and sold the Tamron. Just my personal preferance.
I've not tried the 70-300mm on the D750 yet.

for those of you that got the recent email from Nikon on the shutter shading issue, how long did it take from you filling in the online form, to actually getting a response back from Nikon. I did my return application over a week ago and not heard anything yet. Is that quite normal ?

Yes, live view causes an error - in fact the live view button seems to be the only one on the back of the body that does anything. The metering wants to expose everything at 1/2s at f4 as well!

Was the D750 that was replaced bought in the UK (or EU)? Mine was from Panamoz.

I too got mine from Panamoz but Nikon UK sorted it out for me .

Not the shutter shading issue, but when I requested the warranty service for the flare issue, I got the email reply with the return label back from Nikon within hours. That was at the end of June. Have you checked your spam/junk mail folders?

Hi Folks,

I'm hoping you can help me to get rid of a bit of frustration... I'm trying to figure out how to set the D750 up to shoot on rear-curtain sync with an SB-700 but I can't for the life of my figure out how to do it... It was so easy on my old Canon gear. I've figured out the high-speed sync side of things but this setting is eluding me.

Thanks in advance,
Si

Press the 'flash' button on the left hand side, front of the body whilst rotating the rear command dial to give the various flash options.

lol, stayed up half the night on and off waiting for the invoice, but thats one trigger pulled, soon to be part of the club :D

David, where did you pick the lenses up from, I only ask as I was half expecting you to snag the 85mm in classified and I got that one.
Edit: never mind I spotted the threads, ah new toys.

Anyone use Lexar professional 90mbs cards? 64gb look a bit of a bargain at £24 each.

I do and they are a bargain at that price! I do not use Sandisk cards any more as due to a couple of card failures, I no longer trust them. Never had an issue with a Lexar Pro 90mbs card. :-)

b****r, and I just ordered the 32 for that thinking Sandisk was the trusted choice, oh well.

If you look around there will be problems with all card makes. My last Lexar X600 Pro went corrupt after a few weeks use, I couldnt update the FW on my Fuji, bought a cheap Currys PNY and had no problems. Currently using a Sandisk 95mbs and the PNY as back up and had no problems for the last 9 months or so.
