Nikon D750 & D780

When looking through the view finder on my D750 along the top like I see a random back dot. A friend of mine said its behind the focus screen :|

I'm going to leave it until I need the sensor cleaned again then I get it looked at

My question is:
Why is the focus screen replaceable? Do they need replaced often?

Can someone shed some light on why someone would change one?

They are replaceable, the camera has possibly been modified / repaired following the 'internal reflection issue' reportedly, some cameras came back with swaff inside them. However, this is our conjecture. There could be several other possibilities. Difficult to assess without a visual physical examination.

Just picked up the 35mm F1.8 FX to go with my 50 and 85. Looking forward to using it at a wedding that I am a guest at in a few weeks. So far quite impressed and makes for a light combo with the D750.

Looking for a travel bag that will take the D750, 35 and 85, as small as possible. Any suggestions? The Lowepro even messenger 100 or 150 seem like reasonable bags?

How are you getting on the with the 35 1.8? What made you choose it over the Sigma Art?

I am looking to pair a 35mm with a 85 1.8 and trying to decide between the Nikon 35mm f/2D, Nikon 35mm f/1.8 G FX and Sigma Art 35mm f/1.4. I am just looking for the bang for the buck 35mm.

The f/2 seems tiny and very portable for family trips. I had a quick play with a friends version on a D800 and it seemed snappy and decent in low light but couldn't evaluate anything shot with it.

Did you also decide on a bag? I am looking for something to house the D750, 35, 85 and on the odd occasion a SB-700 or LED light. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

So, I upgraded from a D7000 to a D750 fairly recently. Setting things up in the studio last night, I tried to plug in my old D7000 tether cable only to find that the socket is different on the D750. Doh!

Quick look on Google, Amazon and Maplin's has came up with no hits for the required USB 2 to Mini B 8 pin cable that I need. Can I ask where others have sourced this cable from in the UK? Ideally the supplier can do overnight delivery, if not I'll just be relieved to have one delivered next week!

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
David

Thanks for the reply Craig.

Just to update on the tether cable...found a London based company called UK Light who have pulled out all the stops to try to get one delivered for tomorrow. Greatly appreciate the service from Ash and his team, I'll be visiting their site again, lots of great studio items on there.

Still not had much chance to get out with the 35, will post some pics soon. Went for it over th sigma due to size, weight and image quality looks good still.

Not looked at bags much either, I have a top loader lowepro that does the job for now, will be looking for something better soon.

Does anyone use the new 80-400 on the d750? I'm thinking of trying to swap to something lighter and more portable than the 200-400 I currently use. My ideas so far are the nikon 300 f4 (either model) or a sigma 120-300 f2.8 os. Any opinions on these lenses and the d750 would be very helpful.

I've had this since mind came back from having the flare issue fixed and will be asking for it to be 'cleaned' when it's back in having the shutter shading issue fixed.

That's what I said in post #388. The OP doesn't think this is the cause as he's had it since new. That said retailers have identified effected cameras in stock and sent them back to Nikon UK before putting them back on shelves to sell.

I think @bbg404 has the 80-400 set-up, hopefully he can give you his views.

Mine`s supposed to be affected, but real world shooting hasn`t reproduced any issues, so I`m debating as weather or not to bother sending it in. Has anyone not sent theirs back, due to not having the problem?

The problem will be when you sell it on (if you ever do). As it's a serial number check then it's easy for a potential buyer to check. It maybe harder to sell a supposedly affected d750 that hasn't been sent for a fix compared to one that was fixed or not affected.

With the flare issue I've heard people tried to replicate the conditions on d750 that were supposed to be affected but couldnt get the issue to appear. Thankfully mine passed both serial number checks but i do feel sorry for people who have to send them away and have problems when they come back.

I doubt I`ll be selling it on. This one will drive until it`s knackered. And 36mp is way too many for me. The bit I`m more concerned about, are indeed the issues that some are getting on the return. I`d be fuming.

One of our D750s had the flare issue and we sent it back despite it not affecting real world shooting too much... it's still with Nikon as the AF hasn't worked right since. Has anyone samples of how this problem affects images?

That sucks. I`m wondering if it was just a blanket recall from those two months of production. Hope you get it sorted.

It would seem that people who are effected seem to mainly have had both issues Nikon should really recall them now that the second issue has surfaced and replace them all.

Our isn't effected but I would be pretty hacked off if it had both issues.

If you are keeping it then at least sell on isn't an issue. The question is whether you are more concerned with problems it comes back with or living with a possible problem. personally I would contact nikon to say that you are aware of issues after repair and if it occurs you would like them to replace with new if it does come back broken after fixing the recall issue. Nikons customer service has taken a battering with all the model issues. If you get a working one they are great cameras, as soon as you notice problems like AF you never trust them again.

The learning point is never buy a newly released nikon camera. Wait 6-12 months for prices to drop and issues to be ironed out. Nikons reputation is starting to get a battering with these new model issues, getting customers to do their quality control for the first few months isn't a great idea. If they are relying on people being 'lens locked' it's a dangerous game. My May model isn't affected by either so it looks like they have already solved the issues and changed manufacturing. I do wonder if it's caused by a manufacturing or design issue, it would be interesting to know.

Shooting into the sun, hasn`t raised the issue (I like flare), so the "possible problem" in mine doesn`t seem to exist. Maybe it`s there, but I`ve managed to avoid it somehow. I am more concerned if I do send it away, and it comes back farked, with the other problem. I might give Nik CS a call and see what they think. Cheers Rob.

Nikon identified mine as being affected by the flare issue, but not affected by the shutter issue.

I just checked mine, and not affected by shutter shading.

Yes I have the newer 80-400 AF-S ..... Its the best lens I own. I've also got the 24-120 16-35 and 50mmm 1.8 but the 80-400 is just awesome from 80-400 pin sharp every time.

If I wasn't going on holiday tomorrow and out tonight id upload some images but I really haven't got time.

Heres my post from the other thread.... its not just nikon!

Sure, but I guess that comes with pricing those lines of cameras much lower than the competition. It doesnt make it right though and it annoys me that the way the industry works now is to get consumers to do the testing. And that applies to most technology these days.

So we had the Canon 5d mk1 (mirror), 650d (grips), 750d (sensor), 760d (sensor), 70d (focus), 7d (focus), 1d mkiii (focus), 1dx (focus), 1dc (focus) and their powershots.

Thanks for the reply, is AF fast? I'm going to check lightroom to work out if the 1stop loss is an issue. Currently I'm thinking it's the versatile, lightweight and cost effective option out there at present.

Can anyone recommend a decent strap that attaches to the side(s) of the camera rather than screws to the bottom? I usually have a tripod plate attached and don't want to keep adding and removing. The BlackRapid stuff looks good but only screws to the base. Thanks.

I've converted my Giottos Ball head to accept the Manfrotto RC2 plate so I can use the Black Rapid FastenR-T1 so that I can use my sling strap with tripod plate attached. Any chance you can do something like this?

I've been looking at straps lately and the optech ones attach by the lugs rather than the bottom. They're modular as well which seems to make them quite versatile. I might be grabbing one or two this week. I'll let you know how I find them if I do!

I've got the Optech strap on my D700, I like it, the only thing I would say which is a small issue, is sometimes when you drop the strap the connectors on the strap can be a little cumbersome, and get in the way, so I sometimes unclip the strap off altogether. Apart from that it is a comfy strap, and would buy again

Ive got the fusion plate its great but an't cheap with import duties Fusion Photo Gear | Arca-Swiss Quick Release Plate
That plate looks to be very good for an acra Swiss compatible plate. I've yet to find a compatible one since moving from the manfrotto rc2 plate to acra Swiss. I may have to look at them further, I used to love using my sling strap but not being able to easily swap between strap and tripod has meant the strap hasn't been used for a while. The price isn't too bad if you compare it against dedicated L Brackets.

If they made a longer plate that was strong enough to hang a 200-400 off it I would be ordering one very quickly.
