Nikon D750 & D780

He's saying there is no exposure benefit between the d700 at f1.8 1/8000 ISO 200 and the d750 at f1.8 1/4000 ISO100. They give the same exposure, the one stop faster shutter speed 1/8000 is lost by the one stop slower base ISO of ISO200 on the D700, whilst the D750 although it has a one stop slower shutter speed it gains one stop with iso100. Having the faster 1/8000 shutter is only useful if you can match it with a lower base ISO like the d800 (iso100) or d810 (iso64). Of course if a 1/8000 shutter speed may be needed to freeze action, though 1/4000 isn't that slow either and flash can be used to freeze the subject. Like others have said ND filters can always be used on really bright days if a wide open aperture at 1/4000 ISO100 is over exposing.

Ah! Gotcha.

The photography show is coming up in March so perhaps in time for that as they love to have something to push. I'm wondering if they will 'upgrade' the D750 and D810 at the same time. My guess is they will drop either the D6xx series or d750 series. There is only a need for a FX consumer body, FX pro body and the flagship Dx series in the line up. As the d6xx were released in late 2012 and early 2014 I would have thought there would have been a further update by now. The big question would be from a marketing point, both have had their issues, which is better to keep going when one had oil spot issues and the other shutter recalls.
I have no idea if what I'm going to say is (a) likely, (b) commercially sensible and (c) within Nikon's ability but...

I was thinking that Nikon could actually continue with 3 FX bodies quite successfully and make them more distinct.

A D610 replacement which is pretty close to the current D750. Or if you want to consider it another way a "consumer level" FX body.
A D750 replacement using the high dynamic range, low light capable sensor of the D5.
A D810 replacement using a high resolution sensor.

The D750 and D810 replacements should be designed to handle and function very similarly, while the D610 would be closer to the current D750 / D7200 handling. The D750 and D810 replacements would be more specialist but also more the "professional" cameras with perhaps the better shutter units (1/8000 capable), and the D610 replacement the more general purpose - perhaps even renamed the D9x00 series?

Anyway I'm likely just talking rubbish and showing my complete lack of knowledge, oh any my crystal ball is pretty foggy...

I'm guessing they will do away with the 6xx series. Unless they introduce some revolutionary tech can't see the next version giving me anything useful. I'm hoping mine will give me another two years use and may consider buying something to replace then. I reckon 5-6 years with a body is about right for medium useage like mine, before I upgrade the body there's two lenses I'd like and a decent laptop so quite down on the list.

they should make the 600 series small and mirror less, and keep the 700/800 series dslr

No they shouldn't ...

... but then I don't get this mania for mirrorless especially the Sony A7 series which is essentially what you are saying Nikon should turn the 610 into!

yep!:p. out of interest why do you think nikon need 600/700/800 full frame dslr?
edit i just read your post above, but if i am reading it correctly you want two 750's one with a higher dr sensor, that means no smaller and lighter ff in nikons line up hence my thoughts for mirrorless.

That's where the ridiculously expensive Df comes in... Not that it's particularly light. Or small.

Problem with Nikon/Canon moving towards a mirror less FF system is that it would mean new lenses. If they weren't going to produce new lenses and use existing ones then the advantage of being lighter and smaller is lost.

df.........shudder:p
very true, but that sort of lens innovation cant be anything but good for photographers.

But a slow process. For it to be taken seriously and tempt users away from m4/3, Fuji, Sony etc it needs to happen over night. Nikon aren't going to release a full set of primes, full pro zooms and an average run of the mill set in a year or two.

They can't even release the DL series

i don't think they need to, if they did a similar path to Fuji with a well known and publicly released road map for the lenses i think people would bite.
i just dont think canon or nikon are particularly interested in innovation when drip feeding tech still gets people upgrading-and who can blame them it makes them money with minimal relative outlay.

Typical typical typical. In bed ill been like this all day all night. Then there this moon coming out if I can see it from bedroom window I will give it a damn fine go

Got no moon here, just murky ol clouds :(

I could put some other moon shots up here but I think I might get a lifetime ban :exit::D

A few images from me. I visited The Raptor Foundation in Cambridgeshire a few weeks back. Due to the bird flu outbreak the birds were in their aviaries and flying indoors only. This limited opportunities but the Bald Eagle aviary is nice for photography as it half open and half closed. The rear has nice shadow with the perch branch towards the front in the light. I've had to do some extra processing with brushes in lightroom as the background was otherwise a little patchy.

Sadly these Bald Eagles can't fly so well due to injuries gained during private captivity. The Raptor Foundation rehabilitates and returns all birds they can to the wild. Sadly these Bald Eagles can't returned to the wild so will live out their lives at the centre. This is one reason I like to visit as I know the birds are not kept only for our entertainment and the centre does get conservation work treating and returning raptors to the wild.

Well same old, same old today. Took Amelia out for a walk in the nice light, so I converted to black and white  still not happy with my colour editing :(

Nice Tim. I was hoping to get out in the morning light but the missus took an age to get ready, so it was a bit harsh by the time we took the little one out. Got one that looks ok.

What don't you like about your colour processing?
