Nikon D750 & D780

I'm not sure if I have ever scratched a lens or a filter.... both seem pretty tough surfaces to actually scratch!
Personally I use the hood to protect the lens - it does a great job, not that I swing my camera round like a morning star - I'm not a press photographer ;)

Is this your 2nd or 3rd one?!
Welcome back.

Just a thought Chris, why don't you try the 16-50mm on the XT1 as a lightweight carry lens as your prefering zooms?. I have had a couple and 18-55mm and IMO there's nothing between them in the IQ stakes. Although I did love the 35mm on the XT1 as a one lens option.

Ah well will need to wait anyway, bank blocked my card for a security check and then a car bill, so will wait a little and make do with the XT1 for the next month or so, I might try a zoom as I think it might make the most of the 16mp sensor (and avoid cropping so much!)

I generally do use UV filters, but, haven't got one on the Tamron 150-600, the 50 1.8G (no point at £100!) and obviously the 14-24. They really don't have any negative effect to images whatsoever IMO so I tend to use them with my expensive lenses.

Coming up to the 3 month anniversary of sending my camera to NPS. Phoned AGAIN, this morning, after getting an email asking for the loaner back. Was told AGAIN that the person looking after my case would ring back. AGAIN, no reply by the end of the day.

That is shocking customer service!

Doesn't surprise me. Sure when I sent mine in they sent it back with the rubbers hanging off and the AF completely off. Luckily panamoz swapped it out and I didn't have to deal with Nikon again

This is not right. Do you have twitter? I know its not always the way to go but when I had an issue with John Lewis a few years back about some goods they sold me, a good rant on twitter including them got a mighty quick response!

you could try emailing john.walshe@nikon.co.uk, I think he's the Nikon UK general manager, though the Twitter idea is a good one.

Twitter is a good suggestion, I've done this with Royal Mail several times...worked a treat!

Twitter is great for getting attention! If you have it its well worth sending out a tweet to NikonUk
Nikon would t change my d600 out as it kept going back for oil problems, made a fuss on Twitter and had a convo in direct messaging with them and finally helped change out for the new d610!

Really does sound like twitter actually have a use!

Do you have any more details Rob, I looked on their website and it is £1499 with the option to trade in an old DSLR or CSC for a discount of up to £150, and Nikon's website has cash back of £150 if brought with a lens.
Sorry it was a window display, I didn't look at exactly the offer i just saw it included a cashback deal until the end of September. There was the usual smal print, it probably said if brought with the lens cashback deal. I did think the priced was surprisingly good for a uk camera.

Thought I would post a recent squirrel image taken on the d750. I'm really liking the d750, the processing of the RAW is great, you can bring out some great contrast and colour. Since picking up a battery grip I've found it handled nicely and doesn't feel as heavy as a gripped d800.

So, have booked a couple of extra shifts and have permission from SWMBO. Looking at selling a couple of lenses also.

My question comes for those who had a d800 previously. Any major differences? I like the sound of the af improvement and the high ISO ability.

I have a decent array if lenses but like the sound of the 24-120 as a travel lens although my travel bag usually has 35/50/85 primes.

Just need to wait for payday.

Cheers

I still have my D800 the d750 is a great camera but still prefer my D800 tbh

For me the higher frame rate is useful. I found the d800 quite slow and it seemed to miss the ideal pose unless I timed it perfectly. Smaller files are useful too. It's slightly lighter than the d800 too. My main use is wildlife.

Big fan of the crop mode, used it this evening trying out some flash work

Which couple of lenses though?

Probably the samyang 85 f1.4, allied with a few extra night shifts...should be just enough.

I had a slight af issue with the d800 in low light the other day, so am hoping that it would be better!

Okay can anyone help or advise. I tried a 50mm f1.8D lens on the camera today and kept getting a fee error, after a quick google and seems to be related to the aperture ring. Even when kept at 22 I am still getting the error.

I recently switched from a d800e to the d750.
I haven't used the camera quite as much as I would have liked, but did have both with me on a weeks holiday days after receiving it.
The AF is definitely better, a lot snappier and just seems more accurate.Hi iso, I'm not convinced its a whole lot better after I've down sampled both images to my standard web size(1024longest edge), but need to do some more testing as i haven't printed anything yet.
Ive found I definitely prefer the d800 body size and button layout, the lack of rear af button is an issue for me as I've small hands and can't hold the camera comfortably/fully and use the af-l button.
Im not unhappy with the change though, I do think it is a slightly better all around camera, had I had the funds to allow it I would have kept both.
you won't be able to use the same shutter release as they have different connections but a plus is that it uses the same battery as your d800.

Have you out the lock switch up?

theres a nikon app for it. I havent really used it much myself spend a while messing around trying to get my phone to work with it, but didn't really seem of much use to me and a lot of faffing about to get it to take a picture or send a jpeg to my phone.
I might be using it wrong or just the fact i had no clue how to set it up.

Just having a slight dilemma. D750 or new lens. I do think the d750 is an itch I want to scratch. I think the af and low light is what's drawing me towards it!

@Sir SR I had the D800 and went to the D750 as well as a few friends. Soon as the D750s were in our hands we totally forgot about the D800 except for one friend who decided to keep his D800 for studio portrait stuff as the 36MP files offered him flexibility.

You will find the AF and low light a lot better than the D800. It focuses faster and you have more keepers.

The WiFi is very basic. The app is appalling and way behind Panasonic. You can choose your focus for example and take a picture. I only use it to transfer quick images to my phone to Snapseed and send to family.

What new lens are you thinking about?

Well tbh I'll keep the d800 for similar reasons and I do keep meaning to start offering portraits, so a 2nd body would be ideal.

Lens wise I like the look of the 58 f1.4. I'm diligently waiting on the sigma 85mm 1.4 art should they make it!

If you are looking into portraits then why not look at the 105 F2 or 135 F2 or even the Nikon AF-S VR Micro NIKKOR 105mm f/2.8G?

You already have the Sigma 35 so that is a decent lens for one body and the 85mm 1.8?

To be honest, I have a more than decent lens line up.

I have wanted the af f1.4 at 50mm and 85mm.

I have a 105 f2.8 afd. Also a 70-200 f2.8 vr2. I like the 85 f1.8 but looking at the way the nikkor f1.4 performs wide open, I was hoping that sigma would work it's art magic for cheaper than the nikon.

The 58 f1.4 is a luxury lens. Just live the look of the images it produces. Slightly longer than the 50mm I've had fun using recently too.
