Yes
If I buy a grip for the D750 do I have to buy another EN-EL 15 battery.
Logic says I do. Just checking

Nothing to do with logic but clever options, Mervyn!

You may indeed work with an extra EN-El 15 in the grip but
since the first one is Mickey Mouse stuff, the second will be
pretty close the same.

As for my D800E, (that also had Mickey Mouse batteries!),
when I got the grip, I got
Eneloop Black Line XX batteries for it.

I work with no batteries in the camera but Envelop in the grip!

:plus1: Thats what I use in the grip on my D810 last longer and cheaper :-)

Yes the battery in the camera is a pain when you need to remove it. Will look at Eneloop. Thanks

Short answer is no. If you want double the power stored so you can shoot longer without changing the battery then yes.

With a grip installed you can use only one battery in the grip and none in the camera if you only have one battery. It saves taking the grip off to change the battery. It doesn't matter if it's in the grip or the camera it would still use it. It doesn't seem logical at first but if there was an empty battery in the camera the battery in the battery grip would be used. It then makes sense if there is no battery in the camera the battery in the grip would be used instead.the camera is clever enough to know where batteries are fitted and what charge they are so there isn't a problem with using only one battery. It only becomes a problem when you take the grip off as you will need to swap the battery over.

I currently mostly use two batteries, the camera one is fully charged and selected as backup in the menu options. As Nikon en-el15 batteries last a long time I only ever seem to need to change the battery in the grip, the camera battery is there as backup in case I need it. Ive not had problems with the camera battery last weeks/months unused. its also helps as I use a L bracket that only fits the camera without grip, so if I'm going out for landscapes it helps me to not forget the battery!

You can sometimes find the Nikon batteries second hand, I picked up a few last year from MPB for a very good price so it's worth checking their accesory section from time to time. I have one third party battery, I've yet to see a difference.

Thanks rob, much like what I do. I'll have an L bracket on most of the time so I suppose it makes it much more hassle to remove the camera battery. Small beer I suppose!

I bought an L bracket for my 750 last week, it doesn't obstruct the battery door and doesnt need removed to change batteries.
