Thinking about upgrading my D7100 to the D7200

D7100 - I have always been disappointed with anything over ISO 640/800 for small bird crops

any of you guys done this, what do you reckon??

The D750 is my main camera now for birds ……….. but the D7200 will give me more reach with a 300mm f4 PF and x 1.4TC as a lightweight set up

Hi Bill, depends upon your expectations. I am sure that D7200 is better than D7100 by a few percent in every way and think it a better alround camera. That said, I doubt that you would want to go much over iso 800 with D7200 either without resorting to NR software, if looking at the pixel level.

Tempted to do the same myself (7100 up to 7200) so will watch with interest.
The buffer on the 7200 is much bigger too

Suppose it depends on what you are shooting, I have never yet found the buffer a problem on the the D7100, not planning to upgrade
I've pushed it over 800 iso with little problem too

I am looking at the D7100 myself for upgrade form my D60

Carl, obviously the body is important, but the lens are far more important matched to what you shoot the most

The "problem" with DSLR's is that they can cover such a wide area of subjects very very well provided you have the "right" equipment - lens etc.,

Yes I will take on board what you said there bill thanks for that.

I had a d7100 and didn't get on with it..... So sold it to a mate who loved it! He then sold it on for the d7200 and was blown away with how good it was compared so now wants another one! He's a wedding tog!

Has anyone paired a D7200 (or D7100 for that matter) with the new Nikon 16-80 F2.8-4 VR ?

I'm hearing great things about this lens, and that it even best the venerable Nikon 17-55 F2.8, VR not withstanding.

even though I am selling mine its no reflection on the quality. the d7200 is a great camera, the dynamic range on that sensor is wonderful. they my on paper seem to have not much more than the 7100 but it does make for a much, much more rounded and useable body

i am looking forward to some proper/more reviews on that lens and combo. i think your correct and it would be a cracking set up.

I have a D7200 now Bill and had a D7100 just over a year ago so difficult to side by side comparison as had and still have a D800e in between the two, it seems to fire off shots much quicker the d7200 and in CH I seem to "accidentally fire off a few extra more than I meant to" not sure if shutter release is more sensitive ? And maybe it's because the D800e is not as rapid but dint recall the D7100 to be the same, I'm only using 45mb cards at present and not noticed any slow downs and I had to buy 95mbs cards on D7100 previously as it did slow without them, image quality is better if your a pixel peeper at higher ISO IMHO but only because I think it handles more aggressive noise reduction but again IMHO

Had a d7100 for two years decided I'd try mirroless with Fuji, Olympus and Panasonic but they've all done and am returning to the d7200 which i bought from hdew today .
Nothing wrong with mirroless but i found MFT has short comings especially in low light and the aspc systems just don't have the lens range especially at decent prices and egormically there was nothing that quite matched a DSLR so was nice exploring but come back to what feels best.
