Hi

I have recently sold my Sony A200, as I want to get either Canon or Nikon again

I've been looking at the Nikon D70s with the Nikkor 18-70mm lens, I know it's an older camera, but I don't have much in the way of budget money - maybe £300 at max

So.......have any of you used this camera at all?

I do really want to get a Canon 450D, hopefully I can sell some more bits & bobs so I can get it

Thanks
Vicky

One of Sawmans pics taken with a D70. It is getting long in the tooth now, but a very capable performer.

I used a Nikon D70 (not an S, but there's not much difference) and 18-70 for 4 years, and it's a great bit of kit. It's a very solid body that I've taken on beaches, dropped, taken down a coal mine and only once did it throw a wobbler (and that may have been my fault).
The screen is small by todays standards, although the D70S has one slightly bigger, but I've had pictures sold for use in books and magazines as well as being accepted by Alamy using it and the 18-70. Max ISO is 1600, at which point it's pretty noisy, but not unusably so.

Exellent review, thank you very very much :) Looks like it's definately one to consider!

If you get a D70 be sure to get the firmware update from Nikon (unless it has the latest version) since it brings it nearer to the D70s spec.

I can vouch for the 18-70mm, good lens that I use often.

Another vote for the D70s, used it for around three years with the 18-70. Sold the body and kep the lens, the best 'kit' lens by far. You can pick a good one up for under £300 or maybe even a D80

This was the exact kit I purchased back in 2006!
Certainly brings back some happy memories.

Sold the 18-70/3.5-4.5 soon after this to get the 35/2, but kept the D70s for 2 years till it got replaced by a Holga :D http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=holga&w=52197095%40N00&s=int&z=e

Think it was 2004 when I bought mine (it had just been rerleased). Cost about a grand back then. I still have kit lens.
