Nikon D7000 pics

The D7000 has improved metering - twice as many pixels as the D300s, improved ISO range, and better movie mode amongst other things. The only area I can see that the D300s beats the D7000 is the fps (8fps, when D7000 is 6fps) and it has a few extra focus points. Personally I can see a lot of people buying the D7000 instead of the D300s... :) <prepares to be shot down in flames...> :D
 
more expensive than anticipated - warehouse express who although never cheap are normally about average are going £1099 body only to pre-order - almost double the pre d7000 announcement d90 price.

Maybe the D300s will be discounted significantly now - can't see anyone wanting that over the D7000.
 
The autofocus switch on the left side of the lens mounting only allows you to switch between AF and M, as appose to AF-S, AF-C and Manual.

So that makes me think this is definitely prosumer and not pro.

I think Nikon are just widening the gaps between what were D3000, D5000 and D90. I'd be surprised if Nikon don't release a pro DX body to replace the D300s.

If the FX cameras get the same hike in ISO performance, that's almost black cat in a coal hole territory!

at the bottom they do in fact seem to to saying that the low iso performance is much the same as the D3, D700 which they use and are familiar with.
This is a new sensor with the electronic control circuits on the rear rather than the front with the D3 and D700 so more light can reach the sensor pits hence the improved performance despite the smaller size. Technology ever marches on, the D4 and D800 will doubt be much better than the D7000 when they come out with the new sensor tech.
This looks like a great new camera but I dont like the price! The D90 at about half price is still the better buy I would think and its is still going to be available for a few months. I think the D7000 will actually hit D300s sales more than the D90s.

The autofocus swith has a button in its centre for choosing afs or afc

I agree its not a pro body and the the D3, D700 and D300 replacements are going to be very interesting if this is what Nikon thinks non pro specs are.

A few pointers that suggest this isn't a D300s (as well as D90) replacement....

1) IR remote window rather than 10-pin
2) No pc port
3) Fewer AF points than the D300s
4) SD card rather than CF
5) No mention of weathersealing
5) 150g lighter than the D300s

Pricewise, the quoted figure for the D7000 is the recommended price, not the street price, which is what everyone is using for the D300s in comparison - the RRP for the D300s is £1499.99.....

There is weather sealing, and I dont like CF anyway so SD cards are a big plus for me! Who needs the 10 pin, the D90 has a socket in the side for remote release. 39 points is fewer, but enough surely?
Given just how good the D90 is I think this is a great upgrade, and one I will aim for maybe next year when the price falls.

I would estimate £825 for the body only given street prices are around 75% of recommended. I can also see prices of the D3oo falling, it's hard to see much benefit over the D7000. If the high ISO performance lives up to expectations this will be a superb camera.

Looks pretty interesting to me. If the street price drops I may look at getting one for a walk around body. Looking forward to seeing some low light examples once a few more people have their hands on them. I expect that if it were as good with noise at high ISO as the D3 that Chase would have been asked by Nikon to put a few samples up but he only seems to have daylight ones up at the moment.

They will add those to D7000 and call it D400 or whatever they wanna call it... and people will be disappointed because it doesn't offer much more.

Pretty much opposite of what canon did with 7D and 60D

They could bring out a D400 and D800 that are the same step above the D7000 as the D300 and D700 were over the D90.....

Only time will tell.
 
Its still got the low ISO colour noise that everyone moans about on the D300 and Canon 7D though.

The leapy umbrella woman shot shows it in the sky - as I would expect.

The "issue" doesn't bother me, but some people get suicidal over it - if this describes you, don't buy a D7000 as the solution to your "problem"

This is all very much a new numbers game for me; if this was anywhere near being an intentioned pro-spec camera, it wouldn't have a Dxxxx name (fewer number the higher perceived value as such) so whatever the specs, it's never going to be perceived as a 7D/300D. I'm sure those who are looking for a new camera with the latest tech (for example, jumping up from a D40 or a D200) will find this a brilliant offering technically, but it's doubtful that it'll sway users on that middle rung of the ladder who'll ultimately be deciding between the pro-specs of the DX 300s or the FX 700. It deffo for people who have a compact or older DSLR who are thinking that it's time to 'buy modern', so to speak, and the timing is great when you look at the number of tempting consumer bodies being produced by Canon and Sony - Nikon are fighting back with aplomb. Bring on the D400 :)

Am saving to upgrade was thinking D90 but ideally D300s but NOW

Nikon's blurb about their new D7000


Seems the Weather sealing is there as are double slots for cards etc to me it seems a D90 upgrade replacement with the possibilty of the D300 moving up also with higher pixel; count etc this would seems to be the D90 for the future consumer high end like the D7 and the D400 or whatever name they give it will be the prosumer one above it

Without reading to clarify if it's been pointed out the D7000 is a direct replacement for the D90. The direct comparison is as follows

D3000 vs 1000D
D5000 vs 500D
D90 vs 550D
D300s vs 7D
D700 vs 5Dmkii
D3s vs 1Dmkiv

The D7000 is for now price pointed at 7D but that's because it's a new launch camera. I'd assume it to drop, not as low as the D90 sits now because the tech has moved on so much. But because of the leap in spec the D7000 no longers has the 550D in its sights I'd say it's aimed straight at the 60D. Expect both to drop in price at the same level ;)

And watch out for something to upset recent D300s buyers with full HD and 8fps in or around March 2011 R&D will dictate this but I'd not be surprised!
