I went and tested these camera today with a Nikkon 35mm F1/8 and unsure what to get.
The sales advisor said shooting models with the 7100 could create problems without the filter of the 7000 if for example they were wearing a stripy top.
He said they are very similar camera's apart from the anti aliasing filter.
Is the video capabilities miles apart too?
thanks.

Both great cameras but the D7100 has better video, slightly better ISO, better auto focus system, more resolution and sharper images due to the lack of the anti aliasing filter. Lots of my friends use the D7100 and never heard any of them complaining about moire.

If you have the money go for the D7100

All I've seen in reviews of the D7100 (mine arrives tomorrow) is how they were very surprised how little/no moire patterns they were seeing in pictures with the filter removed.

It's a no brainer for the D7100 if money is not an issue

If it is an issue, the D7000 is better value for money

I've got the D7100 as a second body to my D300, (still hoping for the D400)
Can't really fault it, great low light capabilities, fast focusing, there are still things the D300 seems to do better and my only other dislike is that I still have to dive into menus sometimes to change things, rather then just pushing buttons and twisting knobs
Overall I would say that if nikon do ever bring out a replacement for the D300 I will still keep the D7100 as the second body

I bought the D7100 but like you say it's annoying having to use the menu system.Iv'e only had it out once so Iam sure I'll get used to it , I love the controls on my D300s

Just adding to speculation on this ...

I dont think the D400 is coming. Maybe nikon want all D200/D300/D300s users to upgrade to full frame - hence entry level D600?

Looking back on previous specs - I thought D7000 replaced the D90 - which sort of made sense at the time, however looking back now maybe not :

d80/d90 - not weather sealed (also plastic body) - has built in motor - pentaprism
d200/d300 - weather sealed (magnesium body) - has built in motor - pentaprism
d7000/d7100 - - weather sealed (magnesium body) - has built in motor - pentaprism

I wonder they have merged the specs of d90/d300s now into the d7000 range?

The shutter compared to my Fuji x100 its well loud so for candid or street portraits from 5 foot its not going to be very stealthy.

Ah. It is a little quieter when switched to 'Q', but still no match for anything as small and discreet as an X100.
