Nikon D7000 Intervalometer - stops working

I have a D7000 and am taking some timelapse astro photography sequences. I setup the intervalometer to take a shot with an interval of 5 secs between shots0, 1 shot per interval, and 999 shots in total.
The camera is set to Manual and setting of 30secs exposure.

In the middle of the night, it stopped working.

The battery is good, the card has plenty of room on it.

Any ideas please?
 
It might be because each X number of seconds exposure needs similar time to write to the card before continuing to shoot?
 
OK, it seems the battery was pushed beyond its limit. After 2 hours, taking almost continuously, it gave up and the time reset.
I will use a mains connector next time.
