Nikon D7000 for rugby

Someone I know had a D90 and used it in GBM (wey hey = Green Box Mode) for rugby with a Sigman 70-200/2.8.

They have now bought a D7000.

Any tips for those that use one that I can pass on.

Type of metering.
AV Mode
TV Mode

etc etc

I will need to download and scan the manual as well.

Gary - don't you use one as a 2nd lens option with your D3s?
 
Nah mate, i use the D700, I wouldn't dare put a D7000 near a Rugby field, it'll break within 10 minutes.

Seriuosly Rob, it's just a flimsy toy compared to a D300/D300S or D700, tell him to get a D300 instead, much better AF as well, i use a D300S as a third body.

I would disagree with the term 'flimsy toy'. It might not be as solid as the 'Pro' line of kit but I know people who have shot in a hell of a lot more extreme conditions than a Rugby pitch with one. I myself have shot with one on the top of an elephant in Monsoon rain. It was soaked right through and still continued shooting faultlessly. My biggest issue with shooting sports on a D7000 is the buffer, its only good for about 10 shots at full kilt. :thumbs:
 
I was thinking TV at 1/1000, F4 & auto iso.

If at F4 focus is spot on most of the time, then try F2.8 and see how it goes.
 
As I understand it TV (on Canon is Time Value) & on Nikon is Shutter Mode. i.e. you set the shutter speed.

But if they could set a minimum of 1/800 with F4 and auto iso that would probably be best for them (I think).

Better, ISO, resolution, dynamic range, colour rendition. Worse AF, size, build. I kept mine and sold the D300.

the resolution is nothing, like the difference between the d700 and the 5dmk11 is nothing and certainly not and extra 10 mps.
i find the d300 great upto iso 1600 then it loses colour, and i will wait for the d400.

how would you select f4 if you are in tv mode the only adjustment you can make is the shutter speed.
thats why manual on nikons is great sett the shutter speed to f8 apauter to f4 and iso will do itself.

I wasn't suggesting that you could select F4 in Shutter mode - I was just explaining what TV mode was on a Nikon.

I was then suggesting manual really but with auto iso.
 
I think D300s will be discontinued within the next 12-18 months in its present guise and be upgraded incorporating some of the latest technology in the D7000. The good news is there will be a load of D300s going at very good prices. Watch this space.
