Could anyone please advise me if by updating the firmware to V1.02 on my DSLR will this cause problems when downloading the file from the camera onto PS Elements 9?
Check the release notes here. It's a more a fix for when the Noise Reduction is applied, and some movie issues. It should be fine on PSE9. You probably wouldn't notice any difference unless you have the GPS addon or take photo with a delay of more than 1sec.
