Still debating wether to sell my last one, I haven't even got an F lens for it now, I'm just wondering if I will regret it
 
did you get that one with 7000 actuation's?

I dont know about your end but from here those colours look great, the tonal transitions are beautiful.

I want a go on the bike as well. :)
 
Did the camera come with the optional picture controls or just the 4 standard ones?

That backdrop I used for the motorcycle photo is Gartmorn Dam, about two miles from center of Alloa, Clackmannanshire, central Scotland.
Around seven miles from Stirling castle.

Gartmorn Dam is a beautiful location for dog walking etc, it’s around 3/4 miles walk from start to finish…….a lot of wildlife about.

Quality without spending £££££
 
I was surprised a day or so ago with the price of a quite low shutter count D700 (around 12K) was almost the price of a much later D800 which are available for around the £400 mark. I have just checked and it is still for sale in Ffordes for £359. Is it going to turn into one of Nikon's film classics very much like the F2. I have had and used 2 and never found them wanting.

Mint low shutter count ones are getting harder to find so prices for those ones are hovering about £350..... the used and abused ones are still dropping in price,,,

It spent nearly 12 months waiting for a mint one to come up for sale and then got a couple of low shutter count ones back in 2022.... Paid £360 for the first one with a shutter count of 1800 and £300 for the second one with SC of 3900. I've seen good ones sell within minutes of MPB putting them on their website.

I wonder if the popularity of the D700 is/was that Nikon got it absolutely right with that model, and had not vastly improved on it without going to fancy 'add-ons' which only adds to the attraction (and price) but when they buy them they are disappointed so they go to the next 'improved' version just to find it is more of the same and they are out of pocket- yet again.
12m pixels was enough for me as was the processor but the later Xspeed processor system is probably better, but who use them to the full advantage?
 
There is a certain amount of internet hype and some very valid back to basics appeal. It is a good camera which makes nice pictures. The colours are different to the more modern Nikons, but they are pretty much the same as several other cameras released about 2010. Physically, it is the opposite design style to the latest mirrorless designs.

You get the same mystique with a D200 but not a D300 (over shadowed by the 700).

The 700s successors 800/810/850 are megapixel monsters by comparison. Great at what they do but different.

I expect the D700 will be seen as a classic camera if the trend continues.

I am and will remain a film user but for the present B&W only. But I do have a D300s which is the same basic body as the D300 and it is not lacking in quality for a cropped sensor, and a big step up from the D200. I did however recently indulge in a 'V Low mileage' (under 3000 shutter actuations) D800 and that is I realise for my purposes to be overkill. it is about the only camera I regret buying.

I also add a '+1' for the D700.

There's quite an active Facebook group named "Classic Nikon DSLRs" for devotees of models up to and including D700... There over 8K members... (y)

That's me out then. Facebook has recently been declared the biggest venue for scams and I refuse to play their silly games
 
I have used Facebook for years , Buying and selling , Never had a problem yet, I am very cautious and when selling it's
only cash on collection or bank transfer , No exceptions .

As it was pointed out on a short course I went on recently, which sponsored by an organisation where I am Webmaster, it may not be a direct approach/attack, but is well known by 'gatherers' who are members of Facebook for the sole purpose of information collating and selling it onto the highest bidder. We cannot afford to be blasé about it.

Nice riding weather and I am missing it.

It will be another 3 months before my Consultant possibly gives me the 'OK' after my hip operation - another year wasted.
