Looks like the standard one to me.

It doesn't have that little lip thingy at the bottom neither to what I have seen of this mk III version......dont worry, being dumb.
for the GGS
I use the GGS-II on my D700 too. Not sure what's the difference between it and the GGS-III
Which reminds me, need to order one for the other body too.

Hi everyone,
A proud new owner of the 700, better late than never
Been looking around this owners thread and, I believe it was a "Karen" (sometime ago) that said she was having problems between the 700 and the 24-70 lens. With what I've read this appears to be an excellent choice for the 700. As an all rounder and general lens, besides the obvious, price, etc. Could I get away using a 24-85 or is it best I save up that bit more for a 24-70?
All help gratefully received![]()
Congrats on getting yourself a D700
You could always consider the "beast" ie Nikons 28-70 f2.8 which is considerably cheaper than the 24-70 althou the 24-70 was its replacement as so to speak... Its a cracker of a lens (owned one before I got the 24-70) no doubt Trevor (Bray) will be along soon or later to claify the beast (esp on the D700) as he has one![]()

), just dipped into the funds for the 700 so have to be careful. But wouldn't mind a good all rounder and it appears the 24-70 is the one. Having said that and seeing your reply maybe the 28-70 can save me some money, no matter how small. The quality from your pics certainly gives food for thought. But wouldn't mind a good all rounder and it appears the 24-70 is the one. Get a 50mm Prime and walk backwards and forwards slightly. Voila, who needs a 24/28-70 that weighs a ton.

if your looking for a cheap zoom lens just to keep you going a can recomend the nikon afd 28-70mm f3.5/4.5 its a cracking little lens got one on here for about £60 but heres 2.Thanks mate,
Superb examples, problem is as I told Steve, got to watch the pennies (euros), just dipped into the funds for the 700 so have to be careful. They usually go for around the £600+ ish mark (used) compared to the £950 (ish) for the 24-70... Althou they are becomming rarer than "rocking horse 5h17"![]()
Somebody mention The Beast ?
That seems to be my tag line.

I was really pleased with the Tamron, but wow the 24-70 is lightning fast and the AF is deadly quiet... when i first put it on the d700, i had to double check it was actually working because the AF was so quick and quiet!
(i've just put a 28-75 f2.8 Tamron if you're interested... only because i've just picked up the 24-70 f2.8 from one of the other threads.)

However it's all been said. Great colour, contrast. Lightning fast, super sharp and you can fight your way out of a bar with it. Don't settle for anything less. Seems to me that prices of it are rising. Too many people are rediscovering just how good it is.
For me 28mm is plenty wide enough on full frame. If that's wide enough for you...well, you know what to do..
morning Team D700
a while ago I posted about bag recommendations, and the Thinktank Retrospective 20 came out on top... however I've decided that'd I'd prefer to have a backpack.
so I was wondering which backpacks people use, that are deep enough to fit a gripped D700 with lens attached? In the bag I'd also regularly have 70-200, 24-70, D90 body/grip plus accessories.
We only have a little Jessops nearby, and they only stock a couple of the flipside-style Lowepro, so don't have anywhere close by to go and look at a good range
I was thinking something along the lines of the Lowepro Vertex 200AW?
I have the Tamrac expedition 8. big bag but it needs to be
