Yes
Looking at getting one of these, but was wondering what lenses Nikon users would recommend.

At the moment the E-3 i have has lenses covering 24-120 and 100-400 and a 1.4TC, so i would like to cover as much of the range as possible (The long end is not as important).

Thanks

Chris

B..but

Thats usually the type of stuff stated by Canon and Nikon Owners, who have little or no knowledge of other systems and have a very blinkered view of camera systems

How could you;) I thought you were a man of integrity:p

24-70 and 70-200? Can add a TC on to help at the top end too?

But i have been to other systems, the grass IS greener (love those Oly colours ), so i don't have a blinkered view. I was referring to those who have only ever used one system and had no experience of the alternatives. I would continue to sing the praises of Oly kit to everyone as its fantastic, but i am not blind to the benefits of other systems.

I am only 'considering' it at the moment as i want beter low light performance (for all the fantastic things on the E-system the low light focusing sometimes sucks - big time), and you can't argue with the low noise of the sensor.

:)

Any paticular models of these, and an idea of prices? (Things are so much simpler in Oly land with the fewer choices on offer :) )

Chris

might as well just go for it:

14-24 F/2.8
24-70 F/2.8
70-200 F/2.8

they're all a little over 1k each though.

I would argue that you don't "need" to get the Nikkor lenses, nice that they are.

I have a whole bunch of lenses I will be evaluating to see how they perform on the D700.

There's a list of Nikon lenses with the current prices at Camera Price Buster. They also have a list of Sigma lenses in Canon fit, but I'd expect that just about all of them would also be available in Nikon fit for similar prices.

I've seen that site, but theres just too much choice hence asking for opinions from users.

I 'could' go and spend £1K on a lens to find out that there is one that is 60% of the price and does 95% of the quality

It's a minefield

Do you really need to spend a grand each on a 12-24 and 24-70mm lens? Depends on the use to which you will put the lens, if general/landscape photography you will probably use smaller apertures, f8 or f11. I see the value of the 70-200mm at f2.8, I use one of these but not at f2,8 as it is soft when blown up to 100% in Photoshop - or at least not as sharp as f4.

My point exactly, hence why i am asking the questions.
