Send it back to Amazon warehouse, its faulty, seriously no idea what youre doing asking if it can be repaired, SEND IT BACK.

Send it back, dont you think if the seller could have got it fixed on the cheap he would have:bonk:

Leave it any longer and he has every right to withdraw his offer of a return or discount, he only has your word it wasn't working on arrival

it was bought from amazon warehouse and sold by amazon, they don't do repairs
and they will refund me up to 3 month the full cost if i dont get a fix in that time
so ive no problems there:)

thanks

Send it back, the cost of repair will more than likely be half the cost of the camera. Not worth it, plenty of other d700s around that work fine.

To replace the lens mount, pcb board and aperture lever on mine was over £300, yours may need a new autofocus motor instead of the pcb board, but the price will be similar I imagine.

It only has 9000 actuations so i'm guessing it could be under warranty with nikon
how does the warranty work can i just send it in for repaire with proof of purchase
or do i need to be the original owner?

Thanks

Nikon warranty only covers the original first owner who bought it and it needs proof of purchase to claim. It can't be transferred and it usually lasts a year unless they do an extra extended warranty period (not sure exactly with the d700). As you bought it second hand it's not covered by the Nikon warranty. Like many others have said send it back and get a refund. There is sure to be another low mileage d700 on the used market at some point. There is no point in you getting it repaired as it will be a costly repair and it won't be a bargain anymore. Would you buy a car and then think of getting it repaired when it doesn't start when you pick it up?

Edit: just seen your thread about buying this camera from amazon in March 2013. Now I understand why you are thinking of repairing rather than send back. Has it had the auto focus issue for 6 months? Or was it a different d700 and you have recently bought another?

In exceptional circumstances nikon will honour a warranty with a second owner. They did for me, in fact the camera was out of warranty by a year, as was the lens that also needed repair.

It was exceptional circumstances though and a known manufacturing fault that led to my camera and lens needing repair. I very much doubt yours falls into that category.
Amazon warehouse stuff is usually customer returns stuff, so I would imagine it was returned faulty and somehow sold on again.

Either get amazon to stump up the cash upfront for a repair, or send it back. I'd just send it back and buy another from somewhere like MPB or off the classifieds here.

He aint gonna listen guys, let him lose his money and learn the hard way.

Thanks for the replies guys

As for this quote it seems your not listening
As I've said amazon have give me 15% refund towards a repaire
I don't want to lose money hence my post on here for advice
If its going to cost too much for repair I can still send back to amazon for full refund so I've got nothing to lose ive got up to 3 month with the camera to get quotations and I can decide if its worth it I would say repaired it would be worth £900 as its mint and low mileage, I can spend £250 for repairs and be happy if the quotations are more then I will send back
How can I lose!!
I'm listening to any advice, hoping there could have been a simple fix possibly a firmware upgrade or a rough idea what it might cost, I've emailed a few company's today and shall find out soon enough, I'm going to try a firmware upgrade.. You never know!!

Cheers

Of course im listening, bottom line is you've bought a doorstop, all the advice is telling you to send it back but YOU WONT LISTEN

hope you dont fry it while its in your posession

Good luck

Its will cost you at least £70 just to get a quote, no shop will accurately quote without inspecting the camera.

Its just not worth it, but its your camera and your money, so its up to you.

Fixation will quote on repair for free. So will Nikon. (There may be a charge if you don't proceed - can't remember)

Send it in for an estimate. If it's a lot more than the saving, send it back. If it's less, get it fixed. If it's somewhere in the grey area then call Amazon.

Actually I just looked it up - Fixation charge £25 for the estimate if you don't proceed. Refundable if/when you do.

thanks for the info much appreciated

im from cockermouth in cumbria

iv'e got one quote from 1staidrepairs.co.uk
From the fault description provided we believe that your camera can be repaired as outlined below:

We would effect a repair to the focus assembly, clean the CCD and service your camera. Our repairs are guaranteed for 90 days unless otherwise stated.

This level of repair will cost of £120 including labour, minor parts, vat and return courier to mainland UK only

so its worth getting a fix as i cant find a mint low milage one like mine for £750

I would send it back, some items (not only cameras) are just trouble from the off and it never gets much better, bit like what were once known as Friday cars

...im from cockermouth in cumbria

OK, I just wondered if you lived anywhere near a Nikon service centre/repairer, where you could pop in.

I also would return it tbh, then wait for a good low-miler to turn up.
