Nikon D70 memory cards

I used a 4 gig one with my D70s without any problems - don't know about D70 though.

AS far as I'm aware, CF is CF (well, CFII I guess).

What governs which one you buy is really file size and how many continuous shots you want to shoot. If you're not looking to blast frame after frame and with the D70's file size I wouldn't worry too much about getting anything too expensive.

Given that your card is from the era of 256mb cards I'd say that any modern 2 or 4gig card will be fine.

4Gig works fine in a D70 - when I find my 8GB card (it's been "tidied" away...), I'll try that as well.

Yup, what he said ^ 4Gb is fine, and anything under - I can't afford an 8Gb to try in there!

i forgot how big physically these cards where, just checked the old mans d70 and he only has a 256 and doesnt seem to worried about upgrading, but he never takes it too far from the pc....

for the size you might as well have a 1.8" hdd like you get in the old ipods, i suppose thats not too battery friendly *** :/

q: who is *** censored? i dont want to spell it out to avoid the filter even *** i can see no reason for it to be blacklisted.

I've got a couple of 512mb and a couple of 1gb. They seemed quite big when I got them. Although they do seem to have errors occasionally now and corrupt photos. Do CF cards degrade or is this likely to be a camera problem?

I had the same issue with my D70, after trying numerous cards (blaming the cards not the camera) it was still happening. I therefore had to conclude that it is a fault with the hardware :( .

The same cards have worked without any problems in a D5000 for months now.

I hunted the internet for someone having the same symptoms, but I could find any similar situations. I started experiencing it quite reguarly as I take quite a pictures (100's) on an almost daily basis.

I assume you're using a short version of the word 'though'?

2 points really....

1 - whilst a D70/70s will take large cards, remember that it has smaller file sizes than more current models, therefore you get a LOT of pics on one card, and that is a lot to lose if it fails.....which brings me neatly onto my next point, and one that has already been mentioned....

2 - My D70s has also taken to having CF card issues occasionally. So far it has only been a case of inserting a card and it just wont read/write to it even after a format and its fairly infrequently, but as it has happened with a couple of different, albeit older cards [that work perfectly well in the newer nikons] the signs are there that there maybe a problem developing. Might be camera, might be cards, but at least I know and always carry spares which are 1 and 2 gig.

Bit of an archaeology job, I know! Just to confirm that 8GB cards DO work in a D70. As Yv pointed out, that's a LOT of pics up the Swanee if you lose it though - 2.3K according to the display (which is always pessimistic) Large, Fine JPEGs.

Can't remember what the benefits of updating the firmware are but it did say on the Nikon site what the new firmware did and also had instructions on exactly how to do it (as well as having the downloads). It must have been worth doing because I did it and I'm a lazy bu99er!

hmm - not so tough! Now got Ver 2.0 for both A and B :D
