Has anyone any experience shooting in Auto ISO with the Nikon D600? What maximum value can you get away with without noise showing? The D4 can go to 12,800 with no problem but Digital Darrell in his book says he limits it to 1600, or 3200 in an emergency. Intend shooting an airshow tomorrow and will push it to see how if performs. Will let you know

i have a d700 mine is set to 3200 max shutter 1/80 but although the d600 has a larger sensor mp wise it also brings slighty more noise because if it.
been trying find out from a friend who has a d600 to get his view but he's not answering his phone.

Thanks. Yes will have to experiment myself. Have it set to 6400 to see what happens.

The ISO level is irrelevant as it entirely depends on how much light you can throw onto a subject. Due to that, it's impossible to say what the top limit is. Personally I've got some cracking low noise images at 6400 on my D600, but that's because it wasn't pushed past its limits and the exposure was absolutely bang on.

For aviation shots, I struggle to see how you'd go anywhere near that ISO level if I'm honest.
