Thanks John and Neil. I will follow your suggestions.
You get a brand new D610 as if you bought it in a shop, and it is eligible for the 2 years warranty. Just send the body back as for a normal repair is all I did....
A couple of questions for who got the replacement D610-
1. Did they send you a new D610 as it comes when you buy the camera from a store or did they just sent you a D610 wrapped up in a repair box? What do I need to send in?
No.2. If they are replacing the camera with D610, Do they offer any upgrade with a price difference to be paid by the customer?
I just had a chat with Nikon support and the fellow told me that I may be eligible for a replacement camera which sounds good at this moment, but he asked me to contact the support center directly as they deal with this.

Nope, seems the same to me just less cloning out of spots...
Have you guys noticed any difference in IQ on the D610? I love everything about my D600 except the dust issues.
I'd say you have a very good chance of a replacement D610, but as you say you'll have to wait and see!Quick update: I sent my D600 to Nikon today.
Had a chat with Nikon before doing that and the guy said that I might be eligible for a replacement.
I spoke to Nikon Support over phone and the moment I mentioned my case and RMA, the lady immediately said "I know about your case. It is escalated and will act on it promptly?" I can't remember to have escalated anything just had a chat.
Anyways, when I asked can I get it back by 19th as I will be away on vacation from 20th and need a Camera. She said I will definitely get it back, but can't promise if it is a replacement or my good old D600.
Will have to wait and see.

Sounds like you need to send a letter...![]()
did u take a picture of the sensor i.e. was it covered with the oily splatter or just a few spots. what they are saying is correct. My D610 has spots on sensor but i wouldn't considered to be excessive as the D600 would appear to have. they may not agree with the fact that there are dust/spots ont he sensor thus give u a new D610 automatically.I sent in my D600 to get the shutter replaced there were spots of oil on the sensor (a few months after having it cleaned) and this is the results as on the invoice:
No fault found. Send in lens if problems continue
Thorough cleaning of mirror box, mirror mechanism and sensor area. Performing precautionary measures to reduce entry/dispersion of dust particles. Please note that DSLR cameras cannot be sealed completely, dust particles could potentially enter the system during operation (e.g. lens change, focusing/zooming etc.). Please see pages 301-305 within your user manual for further information and general cleaning instructions.
Firmware upgrade to the latest version
So I take it that the shutter wasn't replaced for the new one as should of been? I also have to pay for it to be returned. Not sure what to do really.

D610 by Anirban.acharya, on FlickrWell, I can't seem to find the photos I took of the dust, probably my fault for clearing my trash recently although I think I may have them on a back up. I think for the moment I will take it on the chin and accept what they have said, I am always careful when changing lens on the very few occasions but I will be extra careful and reassess the state of the sensor when I receive it and in a few 1000 shots time. If it crops up again I will demand a new shutter mechanism at the very least.
Re-reading the repair invoice it mentions a Shutter Place Unit being fitted:
Labour Charges
SR Repair Scheme
Parts Fitted
SHUTTER PLATE UNIT
What does that mean exactly? I'm thinking they did actually fit a replacement shutter.
Just checked and had the same description on my first repair invoice and it means a new shutter is fitted.
Result mate.My replacement D610 arrived today.
A brand new camera like how several others here received as replacement. It came with all standard accessories including charger and new battery etc.
I hope this settles the 'dust' issue for me. Normal dust on DSLR is fine which I can deal with. Now, back to shooting.

Dunno, but they replaced mine on the second return. The shutter plate replacement did not help for me (earlier this year). It was just a temporary solution and problem reappeared. Unless they managed to solve it somehow since then the only permanent solution is to replace the camera.
I think they do the following:
1st time in - cleaning of sensor and mirror assembly
2nd time in - shutter plate replacement + sensor cleaning
3rd time in - another cleaning or D610 (if the customer insists)
They also seems to be having a policy for all cleaning jobs that no spots can be visible at back display at f/16.

Did you get a D610? If so did you have to demand one?
I had my D600 replaced with a D610 in second repair. First had a chat online and expressed my dissatisfaction. I was told I might be eligible for a replacement. Few members here including John and Neil suggested me to write a letter which I did and in 3 days they took a decision to send me a brand new boxed D610. I spoke to the care centre on Tue and the had a brief discussion while I was holding and then the D610 was shipped same day. I gave the same argument that Neil mentioned.
You should persist for a replacement as it would be your third I guess.
I sent two letters actually. A covering letter to service centre and a letter to John Walshe, GM of Nikon. Sent signed copies with the camera and sent the letter to John Walshe as an email on the same day.Did you write the letter whilst they had the camera in for repair?

DSC_1175A by Anirban.acharya, on FlickrWell done Roy.Thanks, John and Neil. Followed your advice. Camera was sent in at the end of November, for the first time. Returned a couple of weeks later. I returned it for a second time as it came back with dust on the sensor. Returned to me on Christmas Eve. Within a day, there was dust on the sensor again. Returned it the third time and Nikon received it on Monday (Jan 5). Advised me yesterday that it was being returned to me today. Arrived lunchtime in the same box that I'd sent it in, so thought *!**!! that it had just been cleaned again. Opened it up and there was a new D610, all boxed and with all accessories. Well chuffed. Didn't have to write a letter or contact anyone else other than CS. Restored my faith in Nikon.
Good start to 2015 for you.Out of curiosity do you need to shot at a blank wall a f2.8 to see dust as I have never seen any in normal use or am I just really lucky
