Hi,

I am a new Nikon D60 VR user having used my old 35mm SLR Zenit and Nikon F30 for the last few years this is taking a little getting used to.

The package my wonderful bf bought me came with a 18-55mm Nikkor VR lens but I am wondering if anyone has any experience with this Nikon and what the best lenses are for it.

I've used both Sigma and Tamron in the past that I have found have some good quality lenses out there which perform well... is this still the case?

Thanks and Merry Christmas all... :woot: only one more sleep!!!

Nicky

i have the d40 and i have found that the sigma lenses that ive tried (18-200 hsm and 70-300 hsm) both perform spot on, and olso the build quality on these are amazing considering the price tags.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU TOO.:woot::woot::woot:

Thanks for your speedy replies... unfortunately I'm at work... although not 'working' it seems ;)

Well... I am wanting to photograph both landscape and macro , mostly insects and yes some animals, birds etc...

I do have a zoom x4 attachment filter which is okay but obviously far from ideal!

I am going up to the Peak District at Christmas so am hoping to get some good shots with my 18-55mm lens anyway but after Christmas I am looking to stock up and get back into things... airshows, motorshows and suchlike.

I am so excited !!!

Sigma 10-20mm lens is worth considering if you're into landscapes.

Bit of everything then :lol:

Macro, only ever tried it once, with reasonable results using a set of extension tubes, but I hear good things about the sigma 105mm macro (or if you're feeling flush, the nikon version)

For birds/animals, I'd suggest a minimum of a 300mm lens, something like the nikon 70-300VR AF-S(about £300ish).. Sigma also do a 70-300 HSM which will focus on the D60.

Landscapes, as Bazza suggested, the 10-20 from Sigma, which will focus on your body as well, but some landscape photographers consider it "too" wide, and prefer to use the 18-55 kind of range.

but the sigma is half the price tag.lol
