Nikon D5500 fault.

My friend's Nikon D5500 after taking a picture when viewing on the screen only the bottom quarter of the image shows on the screen. Any ideas on possible cause anyone.

Wow! that's strange… anything bad happened
to the camera? …like shock, water etc ?

Is it a shutter problem or a screen problem?

Shutter problem
See if the shutter is working when no lens atta-
shed and in mirror up op. Looking inside at low
shutter speed like 1/3 or 1/4 s. you should see
if the shutter opens fully.

Screen problem
Turn on menu… you should see if the screen
shows everything in full hight.

Write problem
A badly recorded RAW data file cannot read cor-
rectly…

• may be the card (test with another card)
• may be write function — take out all cards,
  put some empty ones, reformat them, test.
• Reset the camera to factory settings, set a-
  gain and retest.

If you don't see any improvement, say Hello to Nikon!

Apparently there can be shutter problems if you have used mirror lock up.

We need more information. Is this a one-off incident or does it happen with every shot? Does the effect vary depending on the shutter speed? Does the screen work properly when not displaying an image (eg showing the menu)?

I have spoken to my friend and apparently the camera is not his yet it is one he is thinking of purchasing, thanks everyone for quick reply. I will pass on the info tomorrow and see how it goes. Will let all know the outcome

I would advise against buying it if a problem has manifested while he was looking at/testing it!

I had the same thing happen once when using my Canon, so I put a new memory card in and it worked fine then.

It might be a card problem. Or it might be user error. No way of knowing without more details, but @Kodiak Qc gave a pretty good summary of how to diagnose where the fault might be.

Tried it with my card from d7100 no joy. Tried the suggestion from Daniel regarding shutter and that is the problem the shutter is sticking, the shutter also looks a bit mucky so it is staying with the vendorchaps.
