Nikon D5300 to D7200

As one who intended getting a D7200 but came away with a D5300 instead, I was interested to see responses to this thread but it's dropping down the page so I'm bumping it up again.
I love the compactness of my D5300, it's light at 480g compared to the D7200 at 675g, the flip-out screen comes in handy too. These are perhaps not main considerations for many on this forum but they mean a lot to me.
OK it's said the D7200 takes marginally better images, shoots marginally faster etc but it's double the price, and it takes more than a bigger, more expensive body to get better end results.

Key differences to me are D7200 has better controls on the body, i.e. two command wheels, it has a better 51pt AF system, shoots lossless raw, goes to 1/8000 and has an inbuilt af motor, 100% viewfinder. It also has flash commander mode. The D5300 has a tilt screen, but 39pt af system and 1/4000 with only 1 command dial and no inbuilt af motor and 95% viewfinder. Tilt screen may be of use (isn't for me) but the D7200 is an all round better camera, it also has better build quality and better weather sealing. Both will produce excellent images.

If you don't need 2 command wheels (great for shooting fully manual for birds. wildlife etc.) I wouldn't say it was a worthwhile upgrade tbh.
Depending on your main interest/subject (+ budget & lenses already owned) Full frame might be the way to go? A pre owned D700 can be picked up for little money these days.

Maybe not... Fact is, many of the best lenses are FF compatible, but if you don't have them it's not a factor at the moment. And FWIW, 95% of people don't have a real need to go FF IMO.
But the "better investment" right now might be better FF compatible lenses and see where it goes over time.
