Nikon D5200 to be announced?

Wonder if it will still miss a focus motor in the body, would rather have that than a tilting LCD tbh...
Still not really sure what the point of the 5xxx range was really when you look at the d3200 at one end and the 7000 (no doubt to be 7100 shortly:)) at the other:shrug:r. ...costwise and functionality?
Then again, assuming Nikon know better than me of course:lol: Joking aside, i'm the consumer and wouldnt buy one, i might not be typical though?

As a D90 owner I won't be tempted by this. Some very nice updates but not effort for me to part with my lovely D90.

Agreed, it was a choice between d90 and d5(1)00 at the time for me as well.
Well, not really a choice as the d90 had the motor in body and the external controls....the 5000 had the mp (big deal, really:shrug:)...5 series was just too similar to my d3000 as far as operation goes.

Just dont see why someone wouldnt buy the d3200 for example?

Sometimes I wish I had just saved for the d7000, but then again, there is always something better:D

i saved for a D7000 and bought one, now i'm hankering after a D700/D800 so unless you're after buying a D4 or something it'll never end  buy whats best for you at the time i say :)

Absolutely:thumbs: I'm still really happy with my D90 tbh, and cant see me changing it until it breaks really. Does everything I want or need.
Full frame in a year or 2 has crossed my mind, but the cost of lenses (along with the camera!) brings me back to reality:lol:

So, anyone out there actually looking to buy a new 5xxx series I wonder or are you looking at a 3xxx series? I just think they are now too close to differentiate in the real world, and dont offer alternate 'paths' either for upgrading later? Just my view of course, and i'm probably missing something.

- Both take the same af-s lenses, same sort of mp, processors, size, lack of weather/build quality (compared with stuff at 7000 and above).....

Well I've just gotten the OK for my xmas / birthday pressie for this year.

Does the launch of a 5200 mean the 5100 is likely to come down in price??

I'm looking at upgrading to the D5100 - it was between that and the D3200 - like you said there's very little difference in the cameras, but the D5100 seems to have better reviews. The D90 was my first and original option, but the poor quality HD video and not so great low light capabilities (so I'm led to believe) has swayed me to the D5100.

There's is always going to be a better option, but everyone has a budget!

Interesting that some sites compare it to a 5 year old model: I'd still have an old D90 over this. I think all these 'updates' are pointless. This does nothing that the D3200 can't do, apart from a swivel screen ... wow ... considering most of us prefer to use the view finder.

I bought the d5100 as my first dslr and it has served me well. I wouldn't think of upgrading to the 5200 though, I want more buttons for control on the back of the camera, I'm fed up having to go through menus to change anything. Think it is a d7000 for me.

Well the point of the d5100 for me was it had the d7000 sensor for half the price, but know the d5200 is sharing almost everything from the d3200 i'm not sure either.

Nikon are starting to annoy me a little. I loved them for not getting hung up on the mp race. Now that has changed with all the latest cameras they have released. None of the latest bodies make any sense to me. the d5200 included. All I want and many others is a pro dx body ie the d400. But his doesn't seem to make sense to Nikon.

I have a D7000 but tempted by this as a 2nd body especially for macro work as tilting screen really helps when getting down low and 24mp id expect some pretty amazing macro work (even though theres plenty about now at much less ;) )

It isnt a beginners body, that distinction belongs to the D3xxx series

I would label the D3xxx and D5xxx bodies as entry level. The D90/300/D7000 as mid-range and D700/800 semi-pro and D3/s/4 pro.

It's nothing against users, that is just how the bodies should be classed. there are pro's who have entry level bodies as back ups.

I'm actually hoping to get a D7000 in the future too. Hopefully, the announcement will mean it will come down in price even more.

That's exactly where I am, roll on the january sales.

+1. Total beginner here, coming from a D700 to a D3100 made me that way. It's tough sometimes, but once you buy a D3XXX or D5xxx you forget about aperture and are only able to use auto.

D3xxx FTW! It's all about size, weight and discretion for me. Nothing beginner about it!

That doesn't really stack up though does it. :rules: The d300 is pretty much the same body as a d700 but with a dx sensor and different view finder. I'd say the d700 and d800 are pro bodies just like the d3/4.

Agree entirely, especially as having just been announced the D5200 will be at full rrp for a while and the D3200 and D5100 are around half of that price.

Seems a lot extra to get a few more of the features from the D7000 added to the base of the D3200.
