Nikon D5200 owners?

Why are you upgrading? What are you looking to improve.

The d3200, d5100 doesn't seem a real upgrade. The d7000 would be an upgrade

I have a D3100 at the moment and I'm looking to upgrade to the new D5200, I'd like to give HDR photography a go, and the D5100/D5200 have this feature readily available. I like the flip out reversible screen, and I also like the larger megapixel count alongside the extra focus points and other improved electronics. I feel slight restricted at times with my current D3100 body.

The 5200 has similar controls as the d3100, you get a better sensor and more AF points that can improve your photography, but the d7000 will give you this and more controls which will be less restrictive.

I must agree, I've had a 5100 for little over 4 weeks now, even though I love it,

At this early stage I wish I got d7000

Having more controls at your finger tips wound really be good.

Even from a compete beginner I notice the downside of having to completely pull out of a shot to get in to the menu to changea basic setting.

What settings do you mean? You can change the main ones without much effort.

It comes down to focus type and mode and metering.

I've got the d3100 for coming up to 2 years and I am still at the it would be nice to have the controls, buy not a requirement yet.

Perhaps I should hold on and wait for the sucessor to the D7000.... D7100/D7200/D8000 whatever it will be called

I'm waiting for the successor, but only so d7000 prices drop

Remember the D7000 does not have a flip out screen.I have a D7000 and it is a disadvantage on many occasions. With a flip out you can get overhead shots( can get over fences and walls) low to the ground shots.I was backed up into a small space a few days ago and could not compose a shot due to being unable to get behind the camera. If I had a flip out I could have easy done it.I am looking at a D5200 myself simply for that reason.

I'm not sure theres that much advantage of the D7000 over the D5100. It has the same sensor but does not have the flip screen which I have found very helpful when using a tripod at awkward angles. The D7000 does have a focus screw though which means you can use lenses that are not AF-S. Does the 5200 have DoF preview? That would be another plus.

The D7000 has more controls and user settings.

Flipscreen? Afriad to get dirty? ;)
