The sun has been shining and I decided to get my Nikon d5100 out for a few snaps.

I had taken approximately 10 or so when it suddenly decided not to show the picture on the back screen. I turned it off and on again but no change. Flicked it into live view and still a black screen. I can still see the settings and I can view the other pictures on the card but I can't take any pictures now as I just get this black screen.

It is almost 2 years old and has only had light usage.

Any ideas ??

Have you tried pulling out the battery and leaving it out? Give it 10-15 mins and back in? Not sure if there are backup batteries on Nikons but worth checking and removing that too - try to reset the whole camera to default.

Good luck!

Well, I have now tried everything I can think of and resorted to phoning Nikon who have advised I send it to them for repair.

That'll be another 3 weeks without a camera !!!

Wow... I stand corrected.

From posting the camera to receiving it back took a mere 6 days!!

Apparently if was a faulty shutter which had to be replaced.

Can't fault the customer service..
