NIKON d5100 lens/kit advice please.

ok thanks, just spoke to Dave, top bloke, seems to know his stuff.

Just wanted to update you, gangs for all your advice.

Just ordered my new bits and Bobs.

Went way over budget, but surely thats to be expected ??

From the advice here and online, went for d5100 body, Tamron 17-50 non vc and Nikon 35 f1.4g and 85m f1.8g.

Decided to stick with mainly the prime's and the Tamron for out and about.

Cheers all, looking forward to Friday now and some nice sunny days their after :-)

I have the 85mm 1.8G on a D90 and it is rarely off my camera now. I use it indoors for candid portraits of our toddler and love it. Quite a bit more money though than the 35 and 50 1.8G's though...

The 85mm 1.8G is a fantastic lens. These photos of my daughter are taken with my Nikon D3100 and the 85mm AF-S F1.8G lens.

Fantastic pics mate, love the colors and angles.

Have they been pp ?

But I have to admit, after playing for a few hours, I think I made a mistake and should of got the 85 1.8g instead of the Tamron.

It's seems like a great lens, but to close to the 35mm I got and I can't see me taking the 35 of to use the Tamron, theirs just no real gain.

Should of gone 35 and 85 :(

Just a quick question,

What were the settings to get the background to blur in pic 3?

The Tamron is supposed to be a fantastic lens, what is it your not happy with?

Oh nothings wrong with it.

The 85 was not in stock, being inpatient I just got the Tamron and 35 but they are just to similar.

Wish I had gone with the 85 for more choice.

Minimal pp on colour and cropping. The 3rd pic was shot at F3.5. You can blur it to a much more pleasing blur at F1.8 to 2.8.

One more in b/w and the last one with the 35mm F1.8g

Cheers for that, the 35 Just doesn't seem to give the same punch as the 85.

Agree , but it has its own advantages on a DX body. The 85 mm should work better on a FX body. I tried my lens on a D600 and was impressed.

well just like to say, the more i use the 5100 and 35mm the more i like it.

Will someone please order a slice of sun, on a day when im not stuck in the office.

In future i will remeber, new camera beginning of summer, not middle of winter :bonk:
