Ok so I've had a D5000 since Sept '09.
Over my old D70 it is small and as i have bigish hands it has taken time to get use to. However, I still prefer the large grip/size of the D70.
The live view is too be honest not that good as the focusing is very slow, verging on a gimick and thus the rotating screen is (not discounting the video) pretty unecessary.
Ok on the positive side it does appear to be a D90 in a compact body, but fundamentally lacks the motor drive for lenses other than AFS or AFI.
It seems to have the same excellent high ISO low noise levels as the D90 no surprise as it is the same sensor.
I'm using an 18-70mm lens from my D70 kit as I thought the kit lens is pretty average (past on to a colleugue).
Ok so those are my inital tohughts on it... why do I have it, well I didn't have to pay for it

and I prefered it over the other option a D3000 and my work wouldn't pay for a D90 (which would have been a little over kill anyway for my daily photograph at work).
So that fundamentally brings me to the main point, if you can in anyway afford it buy a D90 instead. When I finally have the spare money to buy a camera the D90 (after investigating various other options) is the camera I would choose.
Do you have any specific questions?
