i got the recall for my nikon d5000 so i sent it away last sat. just wanting to know from other people who have sent it away how long did it take to come back? just bought a new lens so i want to play again lol

I heard about a recall back in the summer to fix a couple of issues. But not anything recently. Can you tell us a few more details?

Tom N.

i got the email end of sep but i didnt get round to doing it until recently. its about a faulty part in the power supply in the camera which could cause it not to power up.

Dear Nikon user,

Our records indicate that you registered your purchase of a D5000 digital SLR camera on our Support Website. We would like to thank you for choosing Nikon for your photography needs, and also provide you with important information about a D5000 Service notice. The followingService notice has been published on the Nikon Europe Support website.

Notice for users of the Nikon D5000 (update 12th of August)

While Nikon take great measures to assure high quality in its imaging products, it has recently come to our attention that an electronic component related to power control in some Nikon D5000 cameras does not meet factory specifications and may, in certain circumstances, prevent the camera from turning on, thus preventing operation of the camera.

How to identify when this issue occurs
The camera cannot be operated when the power switch is turned on. This happens when the camera is powered either by fully-charged battery or with the Power Connector EP-5 and AC Adapter EH-5a connected.

Is your D5000 affected by this issue?
Use the “Check Serial Number” link below to check if your camera is affected by this issue. If your camera serial number is verified as requiring service, additional instructions and contact information will be provided. This is a preventative service measure which will ensure that your camera continues to function to your satisfaction.
Important: the Serial Number check-System has recently been updated (additional camera serial numbers have been added).

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that you may experience as a result of this issue.
Nikon remains committed to providing only the highest quality photographic products and hopes that you will continue to choose Nikon for your imaging needs.

Kind regards,
Nikon

Yea, that's the one I heard about (the faulty power supply/connector/doodad).

From what I heard about it, they took about a week to fix from the time they were sent off. Please don't quote me though as I don't have this camera and can't personally tell you. That was just all I heard from people.

Just a quick question for you though. Would you only get this if you registered your camera with Nikon? I know somebody who has a D5000 but never received one of these emails. And I'm pretty sure he hasn't registered it.

Thanks,
Tom N.

i would say so as i registered mine straight away as if you did you got an extra yrs warrenty

hmm not to amused by this as my camera is affected but I bought in about a month after the recall started!!! Thats a bit cheeky when they were aware it was faulty and let them get sold off anyways!

Thanks for this I will send mine in after Christmas I dont want to be without it just when I need it!

that what took me so long as i needed it to take to bali and also for the goodwood revival. then a bit of lazness delayed it as well lol

also it cost close on £10 to post back to them and as far as i know you dont get anything back for that :(

Surely you are entitled to a refund on your postage costs?

The camera fault is a known problem and has not been caused by you. I would ask...

As they say, if you dont ask, you dont get!!

i did when rang up just to check and i was pretty much told you pary the postage to them and then they repair and return to you that was it. ho hum i guess they go some of there £50 cash back back!

its just been delivered woohoo :D:D at 8.30 at night too
