Whether it will fit, or not, depends on what mount the lens has been fitted with. Have you tried it to see if it fits? DON'T FORCE IT - it either fits or it doesn't! One thing is certain though, even it it fits it won't auto-focus and probably won't meter or control the aperture either.
I had a wonderful Hanimex 300mm f/4 lens from my film SLR days. It was fitted with a 42mm screw thread mount so I bought an adaptor off eBay to mount it to my Nikon DSLR. Everything had to be done manually but boy was it sharp
Hanimex made lenses for a wide range of mounts, so unless you have a picture of the lens fitting, it will be impossible to tell you. But your D5000 won't couple to a Nikon AI mount anyway, so even if it is a Nikon mount you'll have to guess with light metering.
