as a owner of one of these....i wonder if anyone can shed any light onto why they seem to have vanished of the side of the earth...and finding accessories for it are hard to find....i have only owned it for a couple of years...and at the time was pretty expensive....i only could afford it due to a car accident i had......does anyone have any idea....i would be interested to know????????:)

i am looking to broaden my lens collection but am quite fussy and only wanted nikon lenses....also my other problem is mine is the silver one....so even more difficult to find...xx i also wouldn't mind one of those remote switches which means i can set photos up and then move away from my camera?????

How does body colour relate to the lenses you want to buy?

All AF-S AF-I and some AF lens should autofocus on the D50.

cos i like things to match.....may not make a blind bit of difference to a photo, but i like things to be just so....they gotta be out there somewhere.......:D

and thx will be looking on argos's website very shortly!!!:)

What exactly do you need to match? Nilkon dont do silver lenses...... so you shouldn't have any problems getting Nikon lenses which fit, match and work with D50 including the Auto Focus. Which is the benefit over the D40 which doesn't work with all lenses.

Well all of the lenses in my sig work with the D50. Had one for a few years now and even though I have my D200 as well the D50 still gets plenty of use :)
Shouldnt really have any problem finding lenses as the D50 has the motor drive which the D40/D40x lack which can cause a problem when looking for lenses.

The D70 replaced the D50, and I have never seen or heard of a silver one, so I did a search, it does exist and so do orrible silver lenses, I dunno what you're looking for but just about everything available for a d70 works on a d50..

silver is just plain wrong tho

they do .....coz i own two......but thx for your input xxx:)

yep any nikon af lenses will work on the d50,,

I don't think there are any other silver Nikkors aside from the two kit lens.

the 18-55 and the 55-200 are the only 2 siver Nikon lenses I've seen. I believe Cosina do a silver 100-400mm though:)

theres a 28-90 in silver too. one of the old f80 kit lenses

I have a silver D50 as well, the stock lens is silver but my others are black. I have a remote as well. Lots of bits to be found out there.

Well it would seem that there are plenty of silver lenses after all!! can see that the colour makes no difference to the operation, but if available, go for it!!

Wanting a remote myself, just after a new gaget really, but unsure as how the whole infra red works.

Absolutely no disrespect meant here, but concern yourself with the quality a lens will give you, not what colour it is! ;)

After all, many Canon high end lenses 'dont match' the bodies, but do you see any pros caring?

Cheers,
James

thats an extremely fair comment....but if i can combine the two and get the best of both worlds , then it would be great - may just have to go for an upgrade....(god im glad my husband aint on here.....he he ) xxxx:lol:

Agrred with above - ignore the colour match and go for the best lenses you can afford.

As a fellow D50 owner, I can assure you there are loads of lenses and accessories out there that will work no probs with the D50.

Re the poster who asked about the infra red trigger ... dead easy ... you get a tiny little remote, that looks like this ....

nikon_wireless_remote.jpg

From there, simply adjust your camera using the timer button (turn the dial until you see the wireless remote) - stand 'fairly' pointing the remote at the front of the camera - and away you go.

I bought one about a year or 2 ago and use it mainly for night time shots / tripod or for taking holiday snaps of me and the missus when there are no German tourists around to do it for me ;)

Anth.

Aahh, that makes sense, i was thinking there had to be some sort of device attached to the camera :bonk:

Thank you

Nope - if you look closely - there is a remote infra red receiver on the front of the d50 .

(Marcel showed me that at the weekend ;) ).

i am sure you have looked already, but ebay is a great place for older lenses, and even 10 year old lenses work fine with autofocus and everything. i just picked up a sigma 70 - 210 APO f2.8 for a staggering 50 pounds :-)

its on my D70 though because I traded my d50 for d70

I stand corrected on the colour. :$

Hope I didn't come across to flippant before and hope you find what you are looking for.
