Hey Guys

I'm completly new to photography and for the last few weeks have been doing an incredible amount of research into trying to find a starter camera.
What I don't want to do is go out and buy a camera only to find out that six months down the line I'm going to have to upgrade.
One camera that keeps popping up as a good starter camera is a Nikon D50, I was just wondering what you guys thought about this make and model and would It be ideal for a new starter like myself.
Any feedback would be great:thumbs:

What makes the D50 a good starter camera is it has the AF motor built into the body so it can use any Nikon/sigma/tamron etc AF lens ever made, as well as manual focus lenses with limitations

The D40 D40X and D60 have no motor so need AFs lenses for autofocus.

Your biggest problem may be finding one as they haven't been available new for quite a while

Thanks for the reply I wont be buying one brand new I have been watching a few on Ebay and they seem to be selling for around the £250 - £300 mark

I would say £250 as absolute maximum with a good kit lens. I would be looking at £200 max for a kit.
For just over £300, you could pick up a used D80, ( from MPBPhotographic)

2nd ones not too bad, if it doesn't go for more than £250. But I would seriously consider trying to get a D80 instead. D50 is a good camera but the D80 is much better. IMO it would be better to save a little more and get a D80 and lens than have to upgrade from a D50 in 6 months time.
