Nikon D40 + SB 600 off camera

Hi all,

Looking for some advice...

I have a Nikon D40 and SB 600 and want to use it off camera. I have a cable to connect to both, the problem I have is that the flash does not go off

The flashgun starts up, but does not actually flash when taking the picture... Is there a specific way I need to set up through the menus?

What settings are you using on the flashgun?

cant remember off the top of my head. Think its set to TTL

if you put the flash directly on the camera hotshoe (with the same settings) does it fire?

it does indeed

I may get some new batteries for it see if that helps... the batteries in it at the moment arent really that old though

I think it should just fire as the lead is only an extension lead - no electronics in it at all. All settings should be transfered direct to flash - sounds like a dodgy / incorrect lead to me.

what make of cable is it?

Just a thought, but when you put the cable on the camera hotshoe which way does the cable go, to the front or rear?

just says D SLRkit... its no expensive jobbie, poss a risk buying it, but the reviews etc seemed fine

If the cable is at the rear then you've got it on backwards, turn it round so that the cable exits at the front and all should be well....

Little update... got it to work. Think there was some form of corrosion on the battery connector
