Nikon D4 discontinued ... D4s/D4x on the way?

Is that allowed??? Surely if these weren't the true specs and images, he would look pretty silly when it eventually does come out??

Well it isn't illegal, and there are plenty of sites speculating. I'd be very surprised if there were not stub pages for a 1Dxs, or a 1Dx II, or even a D900.

As for looking silly - he'll update the page with the correct and final specs as soon as formal release but the links, and google position will already be established for his critical SEO keywords.

Pretty silly!

I worry about getting there and pointing the camera in the right direction, and as I preset my D4s, it takes care of the rest.

So where did he get his?

"S" models have never been anything about which to get excited; they are the Same thing (why Nikon uses an "S") as the previous model.

Presumably he hasn't heard of the D3s?

Can you point out where it says that please?

I'm assuming that's what this means...

First, although a new product "D4S" is also not after only two years since the "D4" appearance, the skeleton of the basic camera is followed, if necessary, in addition improvement that is.
- For the memory card, and follow the current. And CF card, "D4" is,'s dual XQD card of the topic all the time, but for the specification, that there is no change of this time even "D4S" could be confirmed.

ditto
I thought the thread was about the D4s..........
Anymore news besides its still has the same dual cards?

That is all the news....

It will be a little bit like "the great Kate wait" - until there is an official announcement from Nikon everything else is just going to be rumour, speculation, and discussion to fill the silence.

I suspect we will get some leaks during Sochi as the bodies will be being tested and used there and it will be hard to contain some information getting out - as well as images from the Winter Olympics being gathered for the official launch materials.

I think the d4 was a good step up from the d3s (i have both). Particularly in terms of dynamic range and colour reproduction. When compared at high ISO, i find the d3s images to be less vibrant or more washed out looking than the d4. It is also superbly laid out - every nikon should allow you to assign the REC button.

I'm considering dropping the d3s for a d4s if the price/performance looks right. The mooted Af improvements are always welcome. I still think that pound for pound, the d700 is the best dslr that nikon have made.

Notice that Calumet are pushing a deal on the D4 now, £600 'extra' p/x and free XQD set.

WEX are pushing it too - as are a lot of others. I'd hardly call it a 'bonus' (the word used on WEX's website) - it's really just a guaranteed trade-in figure of £600 against specified cameras, most of which are going to be worth more than that anyway. http://www.carmarthencameras.co.uk/article/33/nikon-d4-trade-in-deal

The XQD bits are thrown in on top but they're not much use without a D4.

The Carmarthen Cameras wording is certainly strange, everywhere else it's called 'an enhanced P/X of up to £600', intimating that its that over and above the normal.

Guys
I am in the Market for a new D4s after having my D3s for just over 2 years now. I live in Malaysia and was told by my Nikon friend there that whenever Nikon launch the new D4s it will arrive in Malaysia shops in +/- 2 months after the launch. I have booked a trip to Japan the second week of April and just had a wee thought that I might be better off getting one there..................anyone ever bought anything from Japan, how’s the price there compared to the UK/USA
I think the D4s is made there, or maybe in Thailand

Why would you want to buy a '1st edition' of a new camera away from home?

Well I'm just thinking that '1st editions' often need a tweak and for me I would like to be able to trot down to where I bought it ... don't know what warranty situation is where you are verses Japan but I would worry there was potential hassle with a bit of expensive kit.

You see that as being a problem

Personally I would recommend you take Gramps advice and wait. From what I can tell you are an enthusiastic amateur, and whilst you might have the means to pick up the latest pro kit I don't think you have the "need".

The D4 had an annoying issue on release - and as someone who had one of the first in general release into the UK, and put it straight into professional use, I wouldn't recommend it. A bit different for me as I was selling 2 older bodies to buy the new D4 - and had sold them far enough back to ensure I didn't lose too much in their value once the D4 was in full circulation so had to do it as I needed it for paid work. You really don't want to be messing around with Nikon Japan to sort out a problem from KL.

Those pre-release bodies are going to get a good work out in Sochi and the feedback from the accredited pros out there should result in a firmware upgrade 1-2 months after initial release for any minor issues and a heads up if anything is mechanically wrong. You'll also get to see if you would benefit from the specifications of the D4s (given that they are as yet unknown) compared to your existing body or a previously loved D4.

I was on the NPS priority list, and IIRC it took at least a couple of months before they hit the shops for non-NPS members who had pre-ordered let alone anyone just walking into a store. So you might find that in Japan you won't even be able to get your fingers on them unless you are also in the NPS priority allocation scheme and even then you might have to do it in your country of residence.

Frankly the D3s is a stunning body, and with yours at only 2 and a bit years old is only just run in. It should happily cope with a couple of extra months of use - and the D3s is holding value extremely well even some 2 years after the D4 was released.

After looking into it a wee bitty more malaysia is a lot cheaper than Japan , so I will wait and get one in KL when they come out

Probably best on both fronts then :)

Yes, the Camarthen wording ('A potential massive £800 saving') is a bit naughty IMO.

WEX call it a '£600 Trade-in Bonus' - also a bit naughty IMO. http://www.wexphotographic.com/buy-nikon-d4-digital-slr-camera-body/p1528886

Did anyone find out what the deal is with this, before I call some shops? Is it up to £600 on top of the trade in value of your gear or is it just a guaranteed £600 trade in price for your gear?

I'm in Dubai but back in the UK this weekend and down in London so thinking of popping in to Grays or similar.

It is an additional to trade in, I enquired about this to Grays in Westminster but they had no D4 stock. Basically if you were offered £500 for your old camera body they would add an additional £600 to it.

If the rumoured specs are all true then the D4s looks like what the D4 should have been. It's a shame the D4 was such a minor upgrade (non-event for me) from the D3s, I expect there will be lots for sale very soon.

Had this from Clifton Cameras today re: the Nikon 'Trade-Up' allowance for the D4 ...

"The £600 trade offer on the D4 is more of a minimum allowance rather than a bonus."

I don't know why they feel anyone would bother and clearly in contrast to Wex & Grays!

I think WEX changed it from a minimum of £600 for your old camera to an extra £600 for your old camera

The D4 definitely did have issues which would make me wary of buying a D4s abroad.

Our D4 needed to be sent off to Nikon. It's perfect now, but when we bought it it had all sorts of focus problems and pics were generally very soft across all lenses.

Wonder if the iso jump will be similar to the previous standard-to-S model...

I'm surprised about the 1080/60 only recording 10mins on a bitrate people would be using it at... Nikon really want to hold off when it comes to video...

There will be a lot of people disappointed at what this 'upgrade' offers - as said elsewhere, non-identical slots and no increase in MP will be just two areas of disappointment to many who were hoping for a serious improvement.

No major improvements and why mess with a top notch AF system if it works, can see this going down the Canon 1DMKIII/MKIV/1DX route where all the stupid AF options only serve to confuse the end user, it doesnt offer me anything over my D3S which works perfectly let alone a D4

Ah well everyone to there own I guess...........Hope to get mine in 2 weeks time, will trade the D3s for a new D800e to make the trio :)
