NIKON D4 announced

Keith

You need to turn of the network connection in your settings and it should let you do what you want.

Regards

Phil

Fine now... thanks so much! A bit rubbish that none of the support team at NPS could come up with that though... I'll look forward to rubbing their noses in it tomorrow! :D

There was some talk on the NikonRumours site of the Video tax being a possibility for this price increase

"The EU defines a video camera as one that will take video clips of 30 minutes or more. If such a camera is not manufactured in Europe (I doubt whether any still are) it is subject to a 12% import duty (and regular vat on top of that). To avoid this tax manufacturers built in a limit of 29 minutes and 59 seconds. "

As the D4 and the D800 have the clean HDMI out which can be connected to an Atomos Ninja or similar, this means that extended periods of video can be recorded far in excess of 30 minutes.

It seems a little bit of a coincidence that the price rise for the D4 and the D800 is almost bang on 12%

This seems a plausible theory for the price rises and so called 'internal errors' to me...... ??

Nah, 'capitalising' on the popularity, short supplies, and the comparative price of high price of similar Canon products imho. :shake:

I can record via the USB - VGA connection on my D300S. (not that I would bother) Not being HD should make no difference, I can still record a straight video signal. If they had to pay the 'Video Tax', then I think they would do away with the 29 minute and 59 second limit, as it would no longer need to apply.

Well, been told today that it will be at least 9th April before Nikon release the D4's to Jessops.
Jessops still have the largest order with Nikon in the country and will get the first set of bodies after that date.

Kev.

Kev - they won't necessarily though. Jessops are not a Nikon Pro dealer. Whilst they might have more shops, and more orders than other retailers Nikon support their channel on a priority basis just like they do their registered NPS photographers.

If NPS members pre-order (and register that order with Nikon) from LCE, Grays, Jacobs, Park Cameras, Calumet etc between now and then it is likely that any bodies not destined for NPS orders at Jessops will be diverted.

I can see it taking a long time for #49 on the Jessops list to get their order fulfilled, and even longer for the full 90 in total they have ordered. Jessops talk a good story but they just are not as important as they would like to believe.

I genuinely hope you get your D4 ASAP, and at the pre-release price. But I'm confused about the 9th April date. Nikon close down shipments for the first 10-14 days in April for stock-taking and so unless these leave Japan before the end of this month and it takes 9 days for them to arrive I think anything coming after 31st March is not going to arrive until late April/early May.

Quick update. Jessops HQ got 3 d4's delivered today. 3!!!! bloody brilliant. I should be ok for August at this rate.

Kev.

Just had a phone call from Clifton Cameras, my pre-ordered D4 will be with me tomorrow, and at the original pre-order price :)

I ordered mine from Calumet in early March and paid in full. I had a telephone call and an email about the price increase, and both confirmed that the original price will be honored.
Anyway had notification today that mine has been dispatched with tracking number.
Happy days.
Bill

Maybe you should consider selling your Riat ticket just incase you dont have a camera for the start of the airshow season lol :D

Seems mine wasnt one of the three, unless they are just saving it for a few days for me.

Grrr! Spoke to them today, mid April and they dont know how many they will get nor will they tell me where I am on the list!:dummy:

Gave Jessops in hull a ring to find out when my D4 arrives and they said mid April, they wouldn't tell me what number I was on the pre-order list but said they had 200 units on order!
Could be a very long time before I see mine:'(

Nice man arrived at my house yesterday with my D4, 70-200 VRII and 50 1.4. Out of the blue, no phone call or anything. I pre-ordered from Wex and was in the top three on the pre-order list, although lost out to NPS members in the first batch a couple of weeks ago.

Only played with it for an hour or so (so no real pics yet). Solid, beautiful but also very loud! lol.

Still no Images then!!!!

It must be so hard looking at the D4 and being unable to press the shutter.....lol

I spoke with Jessops yesterday and I was told they have been told mid to end of April but she could see that none were coming in this week. :bang:

I spoke to them also, said they were waiting for 67 units and to not expect them to end of April.

They just seem to bump it back, they clearly dont expect to get 67 units at once, so why use a broad estimated delivery date to them.

Spoke to Jessops today. I am now at the top of the list. FOR THAT STORE. wippy doooo. :bang:
They have 77 customers waiting for D4's. They can't see where I am on the total list....

I will now admit that I am getting fed up of this farce. :(

Kev.

If I'd known the problems people were having - and if I'd had the cash - I could have picked up a copy in Japan week before last. Maybe on the next trip, if you are still waiting! Although the Yen/£ exchange rate is so bad atm, it doesn't make for any real savings. Hoping exchange rate is better by my next visit. ;)

No news here on either of the D4's I have on order or the D800E :(

I spoke to them yesterday, helpful chap said they had some coming this week and next. They said the whole backorder book would be clear for the end of May.

He said to expect mine this week or next as I ordered early on.

I shall not hold my breath, if I get it before my birthday in June I will be happy.

Anyone know what the going rate for one in Hong Kong is? I might be going there in a few weeks and I wonder if it's worth having a look into picking one up (and a couple of lenses) while I am there. The DigitalRev price with UK delivery is £4899 is HK likely to be much cheaper by the time import duties are paid?

I think you are right. Further to my post above I read a few things and it seems that the price is only really cheaper until you pay the import duty. Plus as you say you would have to return it to HK for repairs.
Does the same apply to buying in the US then? Not that they have any stock by the looks of it. :bonk:

Street price here is about 4200 GBP at current FX rates. Not sure what your import duties would be...

Ordered from Clifton Cameras on the 28th of January

The focussing stuff was what really appealed Danny, if it wasn't for that I think I'd have stuck with the D3s's
