Nikon D3xxx owners thread

holy thread revival ! yesterday i was drag racing and got frustrated with my e-m1 and 40-150 pro so i borrowed by son's d3100 + 18-105 to see if it can still cut it..a magnificent 3fps, a screen that you can't see so well in bright sunlight and a lens that doesn't have much reach.. my son said everything was rubbish so a double challenge to be had

in for a penny..apologies that they're all from the same position but i didn't fancy shooting in to the sun too

Just noticed there is a D3100 thread and it has just been revived. If anyone has the older model, the thread is here >> https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/d3100-owners-thread.303450/

PS

Just checked to see if I have posted on there before, as I would look a little stupid saying only just noticed it while having posted on it before. I don't seem to have posted on it. :)

Regarding using single point focus. Set your camera on a tripod and take the same shot using different focus points. Sounds daft but I have read somewhere in the distant past that someone returned his Dxxx because one of the focus points was not accurate!

Just tried that and viewing focus points in RAW did show it was bang on what I had the points on. All eleven shots were bang on. Subject was about eight feet or so away. and kit lens set to 50mm. I did this with the camera on a tripod. I know at greater distances it will be difficult to get focus point bang on.

Obviously it is me, I must be wobbling camera as I take the shot.

Nice shots Damian,if you would like to join us in the D3000/5000 series thread, you will be more than welcome and if so feel free to post those great shots again.

Try not to drink before shooting lol

I just had to consult the d3300 book for dummies as i dont usually use auto ISO and i was a little confused on the menu settings ,quite interesting option
so can set minimum shutter speed and max iso so can concentrate on the composition a bit more.its not something i would use say if tripod shooting say a landscape but useful for say street or where perhaps not enough time to mess with the settings

I use this most of the time. I believe you can even set minimum shutter to auto to match focal length.

Nice Ben,what did you use to get that close, just the lens then crop or did you use a closeup filter.

Just a quick shot in the garden with the D3300 and an old Tamron 28-300mm manual focus lens. I just can't seem to hold the camera steady anymore. Very rushed photo as the butterfly would not keep still very long. :(

My shaky shots with the 28-300 manual focus lens, is probably due to holding camera one handed while I twaddle the focus ring. Probably should get the tripod out I think. I just do not have the power in my arms I once had. :(

I have a birthday coming up soon. Missus asked me do I want a lens or a flash for my D3300. I don't really want her to spend money on me, other than socks or undies type of stuff. Although knowing how her mind works, if I say I will have a flash, I will probably get an early morning blimp. :D

I know the feeling. The price of the Tamron I mentioned has gone up from £200 ish to £299 in the last 12 months. I'd snap it up if it was at its old price.
You havent got a dlsr to put it on unless your keeping something to yourself
