Nikon D3xxx owners thread

also ,who uses BBF?if so lets hear your experiences of it,ive tried it and used it for a while especially on my D7200 but I don't currently on the d3300 as I don't seem to need it/

good stuff guys, also what PP software are we all using,
I used to have LRCC then I bought LR6,sold that and at the moment I'm using a mix of LR6 Basic because I like the shadow and highlight recovery on it, this is free from LR after your trial ends you can still do basic editing,
I then use Apple Photos to catalogue ,I also have DXO that works with Apple photos for lens correction as the basic LR won't do that,
I also have Affinity Phoy if I want to do any photoshop type stuff.
it has a very good inpainting brush that can eliminate say rubbish bins telegraph wires poles etc but I don't like it for raw conversion because the converter isn't as good as LR.
I dont do much really apart from a bit of sharpening cropping andHighlight Shadow stuff if needed

I must say I've got respect for people who can spend ages on a photo but I just don't seem to get it, maybe I will at some point

My pp software is someone limited at the moment. I'm currently trying to use my fiances MacBook and Lightroom. I've never been a fan of laptops so have always used desktops (personal preference). Since moving to this house I've not had a desk so haven't had my PC set up to get on Photoshop [emoji24]

Also, totally the same as you - don't do too much apart from a slight tweak on clouds or something.

Richard do you find that your jpegs are pretty near to what you want?

I'll be honest, the shots I've taken have more often then not needed some shadows recovering or clouds taking down or something similar so RAW has always been my preference. Couldn't tell you why I haven't changed the settings to take JPEG off ha.

I just use the bog standard RAW converter that came with the camera. It gets very tedious converting masses of RAW files, plus my computer is very slow. I try to keep the photos to a minimum, can get a little daunting seeing all the files to be converted. If I am feeling lazy, I will just opt for a good few Jpegs and video, then simply pick the decent Jpegs out.

yes ,as much as I would like to do even less I do feel RAW gives us that bit of headroom to alter a few bits,
funny enough I had bought myself a new iMac 27inch with big SSD fast processor etc and it flew but I found I preferred my older 2011 iMac with the reflective glass, it seems to make the photos pop a bit more whereas the new one was nice but just my preference so I sold it and bought the new iPad Pro 12.9 with 512GB,of course thats got the non reflective glass also but I use it for multi things so its ok but I do like my old MAC and don't know what will do when it packs in.

yes I agree somewhat

I tend to convert to neutral and at times de saturate, tweak contrast also lift shadows. I do tend to under expose at times, but easy to adjust the exposure. I try to go for a hint of pastel shades, if I possibly can.

I like that look a bit like the Fuji painterly effect lol JK

Sorry Snake, I can't take any creative credit. This was taken in October last year before I knew how to get off of auto mode [emoji23][emoji24]

That said, would the settings be available if I were to upload this onto the computer? Just pop it into Lightroom? It's the standard kit lens anyways..

Pretty good / nice images, taken with the D3400 and kit lens. Wonder if there is much difference between the D3400 and earlier model D3300 / D3200? I know there is a difference with the much older D3100, or at least I think there is.

I was on a workshop last week and I got paired with someone that had a d3400. Literally no difference at all apart from the UI graphics on the LCD. I bit more of a bland vibe I got, but maybe that's just personal preference again.

When we went through our shots at the end as a group the instructor took a lot of my shots for his Facebook page. Beyond that he took a few from some Bridge cameras and someone's 850.

There were all types of camera there canon 80d(I think that's what it's called) 1300d, d5500.

That class really cemented in me what I have been reading on these forums; your pictures have very little to do with the body of the camera.. so it made me stop looking for my next, far too expensive, purchase haha.

The difference between pre d33/34 is now no anti aliasing filter equals sharper shots, expeed ,4 processor giving a bit more FPS etc, better video 1080p 60fps,
3400 slightly better dynamic range,if u can see it , slightly noisier at lower iso,no self cleaning so be careful changing g lensesbut basically the same,

Yes in LR you can see details of settings, plus maybe just stay in auto then, looks good to me

I shoot only raw now, I got bored of deleting the jpegs. It forces me to view them all and be critical about out of focus stuff.
Agree but I don't get wat u mean re oof ones, not just jpegs would be oof or am I misunderstanding u

I thought the difference would only be marginal, but it is amazing how quickly a new model comes along, even at entry level.

Just a personal thing, I am more critical of focus when I know I have to do the pp.
I am surprised the amount of time I miss focus, when viewing focus points in RAW. The focus could be on the person's head, when I thought I was focused on an eye.

So this could be your error or lens micro adjustment problem,
The d3300 seems to not suffer too much with that, could it be this is more noticeable at shallow DOF

More than likely user error, as most missed focus is on moving subjects. If person is stood still posing for me, I don't have that problem. When I do photos of my dog moving, I tend to focus on her head. But I have sometimes locked focus on her shoulder instead. It is hard to lock focus on a moving subject anyhow, or at least it is for me. :(

Sorry to go off topic.. but went for a walk earlier. Jumped in a bush in an attempt to get the last of the purple heather haha. IMG_1005.jpg
