Nikon D3x Woes

:beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer: :beer::beer::b eer::beer: This landlord only allows 12

You mean 11 beers, a ":b", and an "eer:"

Edit: Or at least you did, until you corrected it! (want to put a : razz : here, but am over the smiley limit : ) )

I see my work here is done...
A fine evening's entertainment - drop a grenade in the room and retire to the sofa for an evening of Buffy DVDs and a 25yr malt donated as additional thanks from a happy client - you can't beat that...lol

Wondered when the single malt would make an entrance:)

Of course for any Nikon owners wishing to experiene what it's like to shoot with a Canon I can lend them my Nikon->Canon conversion kit

simply drag across the sensor and as if by magic people will think you have a swapped to Canon :naughty: :exit:

Is this the conversion kit for the DX or FX sensor? :p

let's be fair, while they don't throw in the lens hood, canon do include a free image quality upgrade kit with all their lenses...

I have an issue with Nikon

There are no unmolested D3s in my company so could not get one for Sunday just gone and had to look silly with my D300s... Oh wait I did not look that silly just 3.5K richer for about 7 days...

I got mine, and tried putting on some L lenses 'cos I heard that they're the best money can buy - and NONE of them would fit! The cheek! Absolute rubbish!

Fortunately I'm pretty handy with all this DIY stuff, so a hammer and some gaffer tape later and I'm ready to go shooting :D

Plonker...you are screwing it on the wrong way duh!

This is called "trolling".

On other forums you can get banned for it :nono:

Also, I can't take anything you say seriously ever again. Getting Brahms & Liszt whilst watching Buffy The Vampire Slayer, indeed. If it was the second series of Blakes 7 I could understand it :|

A.

As a side issue I was down at my local lake yesterday and a fellow photographer (a professional no less) was discussing the fact that he regularly used ISO 10,000 on his canon 450D and that in his opinion I had wasted my money on a D3 as Nikon were crap LOL, suffice to say I bid him the best of luck. He did give me his business card and I have considered posting the link but suffice to say his pictures were....................... well let say CRAP:D It is good that we can all have a bit of banter without falling out and I suspect we all come across numpys like the one I described, after all it's the pictures that count

What's the high ISO capabilities like on the D3x, I'm guessing it's nowhere near as good as the D3 because of the pixel size but what's the usable range?

Not sure as I've not owned a D3x but looking at the stats and pictures it is probably a stop or two behind the D3 and better than the Mk 1V.

If you only want a 12MP image and so don't mind downsampling the D3x image it's actually just as good. :)

It's rubbish at anything over 600iso, frankly...same as a D2x, more or less
That's why I have a D3 for 'routine' work...

But as long as you know that, it's fine - it does exactly what it was designed to do...
The D3x is a studio or fine-art tool, whereas the D3/D3s is a general-purpose camera - the D3 does everything well apart from really huge enlargements - and I can still get an A1 poster out of the D3 with no artefacts at all...

The D3x is my 'Hasselblad'...

I find that...unlikely...I just dusted off my Leica M6 and will doing the 'film' thing for happy snaps for a while now...

lol.
What's this "film" thing you speak of? are they a new format of memory cards?

i can but dream of using a dSLR again, unless i can get a left handed one.

Nearly...each one is roughly equivalent to a 120Mb CF card in terms of storage...and can only be written to once...lol

I know a guy who only has one hand - he just changed his subject matter - concentrated on studio portraiture work instead - uses a cable-release for everything...
I think his 'hook' has now been modified to operate a shutter-button though...

aha, WORM storage then ;)
Haven't used film for about 15 years. last 2 rolls i ever used were reala and velvia.

not as bad as that, got 2 arms, just the right one suffers a lot of pain and weight of a dSLR aggravates it.

Wow I did not know that, still I wouldn't part with my D3 for anything ( well poss a D3s :D)

The caveat to that is that you can effectively enlarge a D3x image by a greater amount before that noise becomes noticable though... so when I say it's about the same as a D2x you have to take that into account - images at comparable iso-settings are still about 80% better on the D3x over the D2x...

But I wasn't impressed by the low-noise capability overly much...
I do love it at anything under 400iso though...

And yes...apparently D3s bodies will be back on the retailers shelves this week...

Cheers for that the D3s bit was a little tongue in cheek, I cannot see £2000 for a stop or two of ISO performance over the D3 and a few small changes here and there. I am going to wait till the D4 as I suspect it is going to be rather special, just as the D3 was back in 2007

the D3S is superb and the high ISO blows canon out of the water (i switched from Canon in March) some test shots on my flickr :)

I know :D but so does the D3 hence not bothering to change just yet :D

I have a feeling that the D4 may have a new auto focus system amongst other things, just a hunch but they have produced nothing new since the D3, apart from the D3s upgrade. Sure with my type of photography I could use the extra ISO performance but at around 2k ish it is not that important to me:D Also knowing me I'd plumb for the S and then have to change again so even more money.

I love my D3 and do not see myself changing sides as it perfect for what i do.

Now what's my limit on my credit card :)

I think things are going to slow down drastically from now on actually...
The massive leaps in technology have plateau'd, so to speak...I think future models will have some very minor tweaks with regards mechanical advances - the major steps forward will be issued as firmware updates...and you don't need new bodies to do that...
We've got so used to seeing new cameras every two years or so, with sub-model upgrades every 12 or 18 months...
Remember in pre-film days, Canon and Nikon only released new Pro cameras every ten years or so...

I think we'll soon be back to that kind of advance...maybe 5-yearly upgrades...
