"Interestingly, the top three cameras in DxOMark's Image Quality Database are all made by Nikon. In second place, for image quality, is the Nikon D3, which scored an 80.6 out of 100. In third place is the Nikon D700, which scored an 80.5. The top ranked camera from Canon is the 1Ds Mark III which is in fourth place in the Image Quality Database with a score of 80.3."

Don't disagree with you here. But at least they're applying some kind of science to the comparisons. Rather than applying purely subjective judgements. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But anyway, I for one am happy to know that the D700 is up there....:)

Its ludicrous. Whats the difference between a 80.5 and an 80.3?

Reducing a camera's image output to a number is as stupid to me as a music reviewer giving a CD 84%. Neither tell you how it'll look or sound.

Oh.. and according to that, the D90 is better than the D3X.
 
This is good, for too long Canon has been top dog, Nikon have fought back with a vengeance, and have come up trumps.

Hopefully, it will spur Canon to get off their fat ar**s and do something about it.
 
But ultimately it's science for science's sake. It still doesn't tell you anything meaningful and serves little purpose other than to give those with the 'right' camera a nice warm feeling inside.

And given that some of the rankings are skewed rather wildly, I'd take everything that site says with a rather large dash of sodium chloride.
 
Their website upset my browser to the point of suicide :(. I think it gets jealous of the dynamic range of other white goods :p.

 
Now, correct me if im wrong, but wasnt the insides of a 1dmkii and a 1dmkiin identical? If so, then how can one rank higher then the other?

And also, the 40d ranks above the 50d, so have Canon taken a step back with the 50d compared to the 40d?
