Hi frens
I need a bit of advice regarding this model nikon d3100. Many are suggesting it but some are saying it has issues with video shooting.
Any suggestion will be helpful for me.

Hello Jeet I have this camera and I love it. I have not used it for video but for still images I think it is fantastic I have been pleased with the results I have been getting from it, I am very new to photography and I bought it due to the price to see if I enjoyed the hobby (I love it) but I will be keeping my D3100 for a while yet. Take a look at some of my images on this forum all taken with the D3100 hope this helps. I have heard that the canon 550 is the better one for video, but if you want a video camera buy a video camera.

All the best

Spen.

i dont know whay issues there are with video? ive taken loads of clips with it and they all came out fine. :-)

the D3100 is a great starters camera and im still finding things out about it a year later. go for it! :-)

I too have this camera - I'm loving it too. For me the video is fine - when you say you want the video functions to be good what sort of video will you actually be shooting?

but if you want a video camera buy a video camera.
Don't really agree with this, can get some awesome shots with the d3100 which you wouldn't be able to get with a video camera of the same price.

Thanks lolage
Tht ws d perfect review i ws lookin for. I hv planned to go for this camera. And just wanted to know regardin the video issue from a person who is using this.
Thank you once again...:-)

I too have this camera and would give it a thumbs up. The video quality is good. I think its a 10min maximum continuous video shooting.

Hi mikew
I need a bit more detail regarding tht 10min conti video capturing limitation

You can film for 10 minutes, then it stops. you have to start it again.

Its to do with tax of all things. Anything that shoots video over a certain amount of time is classed as a camcorder and attracts a different rate of tax. so DSLR manufactures limit the record time as to not encounter this. I have a feeling the limit is 30 minutes, so not sure why they capped the D3100 at 10.

Autofocus isnt great, unless you use an external audio aource, you will pick up the noise of the lens focusssing. Quality is excelent however.

Here is a small video I made with the d3100, In no videographer though!

Thanx a lot Tcr...
I ws not sure about tht 10min vid problem. Thanx fr clarifyin my doubt. I checkd out tht sound problem during auto focusin. But the video quality is really great.
I think i ve to compensate that 10min problem but i ll buy this one.
Thanx again.:-)

exactly what Tcr said. I havent found it to be any problem yet and the quality compensates for it I think.

If you can afford to go to the D5100 you can shoot up to 20mins video alsothe Nikon D3100 is capable of full HD (1920x1080p) @ 24 fps (frames per second) with no exposure control, while the D5100 can shoot 1080p at 24, 25 and 30 FPS and allows semi-manual exposure control. The Nikon D5100 also has an external microphone jack to record audio.

Thanx Dalyan
But d5100 is out of my budget actually. I checked out d3100 pictures they are quite impressive. The only doubt ws the video timelenght but i guess i ve to manage with tht, thou the quality is brilliant. But i ll go for d3100. :-)
