Hi, anyone who has had previous expierence using the Nikon D3000 could you please answer a few questions about this DSLR. I am considering purchasing this DSLR, and before i commit myself i would just like to know what some of you more expierience togs thought of it.

Is this DSLR suitable for an amateur photographer who knows the basics of photography?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of this DSLR?

What were your impressions of the camera, did it meet your expectations?

Is there any other similar priced DSLR's on the market that offer better value for money?

That is about it, if you can provide me with any other information that may help. Please reply to my thread.

I am using a D60 that is a very close relation and would say its a great way of getting your foot in the door. My Girl friend who has much more expensive cameras was still regularly using it before I “borrowed” it off her. I was going to get the D3000 until that happened as its a very similar camera but with a better af system and a bigger screen. You may wish to look at the D5000 as well as I am told is has a much better sensor in it for a similar price.

Do all Nikkor lenses fit all Nikon DSLR's?

Its a proper DSLR at a great price and will do everything most people would want from a camera. So its a great camera to get your started in the DSLR world. :)
 
Ive taken a look at the D5000 and its a good £60-£100 dearer. Probably a little out of my price range unfortunately.
 
I have had one of these for a couple of months now and I am very pleased with it in all respects. It is lightweight, well built, has accurate 11 point AF and the well proven 10Mp sensor from the D40x/D60/D80/ etc. Excellent battery life too.
If I was buying a camera today at this price I'd buy the same again.

No 'live view' or video but I did not want those anyway.

For newcomers to DSLR's the D3000 built in guide mode may be of some use.

The Canon equivalent would be the EOS 1000D which is a very similar price too.
 
I am using D5000 now. The biggest difference between D3000 and D5000 includes :

1. turnable lcd moniter. 2. CCD and CMOS 3. Vedio function. So I think D3000 is a simplised D5000.

The advantage is its light weight. Easy to carry everywhere. But you have limited choice on camera lens, especially the great and cheap third party lens.

In terms of that, I may suggest you to think about Canon 1000D. Another cheap entry level camera which support all canon mount af lens.
