Hi all,

Looking to buy a new camera, and want something better than a point and shoot. I've done a lot of reading and come to the conclusion that a one of the above cameras would be suitable for me. Just wanted some advise from *** who own one of these...hopefully I'm on the right lines with my choices and can choose one soon. Also considered the GF1 but the price tag is putting me off.

I'm not really looking to get into photography as a hobby (yet) but want to take better quality photos of the kids and holidays etc.

Just popped over from that other thread to say Hi Ash...

First off a big :welcome: to you from the TP members... ... hope you have an enjoyable stay and learn loads from the guys 'n gals here who know an awful lot about just about everything... :D ... not all of it photography related... :naughty:

As for your choices... ... if you are not looking to get 'into' photography have you considered the Panasonic LX3 or even LX7... ... excellent quality from a truly portable and very flexible camera that should provide you endless possiblities... ;)

I have the Leice D-Lux 4 which is very similar to the LX3 and it is a real gem of a camera that has re-awakened my mojo... :D

Above all else and whatever your choice you really should get into a shop like Jessops and give these things a good going over 'in the hand' to make sure they are comfortable for you... ;)

Good luck and let us know how you get on...

:p

Copied and pasted from the other thread.

Im a G1 user and the more I think of it the more I know I made the right choice. It was between the G1 and the EP1 for me (no GF1 at the time), its small size and weight was what first attracted me and the many good reviews. It's easy to use, loads of options and very well laid out.

There is a lack of lens choice, which can be either good or bad, depends how you see it, and all the Panasonic micro 4/3's lenses seem to be well regarded (expensive though).
You can get the G1 with the 14-45 kit lens for £440 in most places, so don't pay the £490 high street prices.

Hey thanks for the replies.

Already had a "feel" of the D3000 at Jessops, will try out some others and hopefully make a decision soon.

Have you made a decision yet Ash?

Held/had a go with a G1 today and thought it was lovely.
